Analysis

Thanks for the massive responsive we received for this poll, and for all your interesting feedback. Here's a sample:

  • "I have a time share (Polo Towers) right on the Strip and spend the majority of my time there. However, I do use offers from Strip hotels to add a day or two on either end of the trip. This allows me to get cheaper flights by flying mid-week. I will not stay at any Strip hotel that will not waive the resort fee for me and so far I have had success in getting them to do this."

  • "During the course of the year we stay at three casinos. They are M Resort, Green Valley Ranch, and Red Rock. We always get comped for rooms and food. We like being away from the Strip but do visit the Strip casinos and play some."

  • "I stay on the Strip where all the fun begins, but I look for the best offer at the best casino. If I get a good offer from Aria, I stay there. If not, I look for a better promo elsewhere. Rooms are just a place to leave your bag in Las Vegas: There is too much to see, too many places to go, and too much to do, to stay camped at one property."

  • "Recently we have been staying in off-Strip casinos such as the Orleans, Tuscany Suites, or South Point, since we like places with inexpensive restaurants and other amenities, and we often bring our kids with us. However, on our last trip to the Orleans, the air quality was so poor due to cigarette smoke that we might have to stay someplace else in the future. This never really bothered us before but it was terrible this time. We also have enjoyed renting other people's timeshares when we can find a deal on eBay, so we may go back to that, or we may use points to stay in a chain hotel."

  • "Two different approaches for me: Once a year for the past 30+ years my high school buddies and I will hit a weekend of playoff football downtown at Four Queens. The accommodations don't mean as much as the gaming and atmosphere. All other Vegas trips are with my wife and we hit the Wynn/Encore. It's all about the accommodation for her. I enjoy each experience as unique and always fun!"

  • "We stay where we can get comped rooms, moving from one hotel to another every few days and we normally play where we stay. This system not only saves us money but we get to play at a variety of casinos."

  • "We stay with whoever gives us the best deal that matches our current economic situation, but it's 90% downtown. Golden Nugget if we feel the need for 'plush'. I liked staying at the El Cortez just for the historical ambiance. Fremont usually has good deals for us, also."

  • "Only stay where we get our room (and resort fee) comped. For example, Flamingo-type on the Strip, Orleans off-Strip. The room needs to be clean and the casino needs to have decent games to play, with adequate rewards program."

  • "I almost voted for 'I’m very flexible in terms of accommodation, I just want the cheapest deal, wherever that may be, and I do my homework to find it!' But it's not quite true. We DO look for the BEST deal but it's not always the CHEAPEST. We have our favorites, Main Street Station downtown, Tuscany off-Strip, Riviera on-Strip and, prior to resort fees, Caesars properties on the Strip. But sometimes a deal from MGM Mirage is good, despite resort fees. We do our homework and find the best fit for that particular trip."

  • "I usually stay at Sam's Town for 5 nights and then the Paris for 3 nights. All rooms are comped. I drive to LV from San Antonio TX about 5 times a year."

  • "We always shop around. We try to stay at the nicest place for the lowest amount. If we come out for 11 nights, we may stay in three different places, just to take advantage of free rooms and special offers. My folks also have time shares, so when we can, we stay in a time share. My parents are retired and by giving us a week in a time share, it's a way for them to give us a 'present,' without really costing them. WINNING!!!!!"

  • "A few years ago, I bought a timeshare through eBay. I paid $1, plus $125 deed transfer fee to Clark County. My yearly maintenance fee, which is $580, is in line with a week's stay at most Vegas hotels. Plus I enjoy the extra room of an apartment compared to a hotel room. Otherwise, I get more offers of free rooms at locals casinos, so we stay there when we want to extend our stay or make a second trip out from the East Coast that year."

  • "My wife and I are low rollers. The Orleans and Gold Coast treat us great. They both give us 2 comped nights twice a year. The El Cortez gives us a mailer with good room rates and extras twice a year."

  • "I really favor the M Resort, but if I am going to a show or concert on the Strip, I may choose a Strip hotel just to save the parking/driving hassle. But, for the most part M Resort is my home away from home when I am in Vegas."

  • "I checked several because I stay wherever I get free offers. I haven't paid money out of pocket for a room in 30+ years. I play where I stay and the casinos know it so I get several offers to choose from. I have stayed in 3 different hotels for a week's stay. Last April it was The Cosmopolitan, Fremont and Rivera. The time before that it was Hooters, Orleans and Palazzo. What I have found out is that once you turn out the lights, they all look the same."
