Poll : 22 April - 05 May 2015

Q:
With all the current construction afoot, plus talk of even more new stadiums/arenas, we're interested to know which of Las Vegas' major EXISTING music/sports/entertainment venues you visit with any regularity, and which of those in the pipeline/on the drawing board you could definitely see yourself attending in the future, should they come to fruition? Pick as many options as apply.

Analysis

This is a timely survey, with Rock in Rio just getting underway at the new MGM Festival Grounds (as opposed to the new MGM Festival Village -- that other new outdoor-event venue located at the other end of the Strip -- and your feedback was interesting (we note a predilection for the more intimate concert venues, as opposed to mega stadiums, with which we concur, plus a general sense of ennui with what feels like more and more of the same and less and less of what historically made Vegas different...) Here's a representative sample:

  • "I come to play in the casino. For me, the advantage of the shows, fights, and other big events, is that it means there are less people in the casinos."

  • "I have regularly attended concerts at The Joint at Hard Rock."

  • "I visit Brooklyn bowl more than anywhere. Great shows. Great venue."

  • "I am tired of such large venues and will not be attending [any of them]."

  • "When I'm in Vegas I am there to (in this order) gamble, sample some restaurants, walk the strip (again to gamble) hit the roller coasters, etc. In short, I want to experience what makes Vegas unique. As far as sporting events or performing-arts centers, etc., I don't even think about them when I am there."

  • "My wife and I spend a month each year in Las Vegas. We drive there from San Antonio, TX, to gamble and eat and infrequently go to a show. Very few outside activities interfere with our gambling and eating. We have yet to return home with more money than departing, but we enjoy the casino fun and will continue to do so until we can no longer physically enjoy the party."

  • "You forgot the Downtown Events Center, behind the D." [Ed: We didn't forget it, we opted not to include this new venue a) since it's smaller than most of the animals we listed and b) it's seldom hosted an event since opening, and has an ongoing calendar bereft of any listings. Hopefully this state of affairs will improve, as we like the concept very much.]

  • "None of the above. We will wait patiently until Las Vegas is able/allowed to start one of the big 4 professional sports. Especially looking forward to the opportunity for a road trip to Las Vegas in May, when our hometown Vancouver Canucks meet Vegas in the NHL playoffs!"

  • "I've been to Las Vegas over 100 times in the last six years and I've never been to any of these places." [Ed: Well, that seems pretty definitive!]

  • "You forgot to include in your choices, I do not go to any events."

  • "We've been going to Las Vegas for over 20 years and have not once been to any of these venues. I picked the MGM because if the NHL comes to LV, we might go see the Mighty Chicago Blackhawks! Unlike the current management thinking, we go to LV to GAMBLE! Imagine that!"

  • "I have no interest in any stadium or arena events in Las Vegas. I must be one of the rare birds who comes to Las Vegas for the hotels, restaurants, gambling, sightseeing and the occasional production show in a comfortable theater. Paying top dollar to be crowded into a stadium/arena full of sweaty drunks somehow doesn't appeal to me." [Ed: Not so rare at all, evidently!]

  • "I don't go to any of these and would not go to any new ones. I come to Vegas for gambling and food."

  • "I hate to say this, but I normally come for the gambling. I have been coming to Vegas since 1969 (after my first tour in Vietnam) and have seen less than 10 shows in that time, and most of those were comped. My time was either spent at the tables or in the buffet lines, lol." [Ed: We're starting to notice a pattern here... :-) ]

  • "Caesars Colosseum: For however long Rod Stewart continues to perform there, I will be attending!!" [Ed: Finally! LOL]

  • "Caesars Palace ONLY to watch Celine Dion perform...VIP tickets for Oct 6...so glad she is back!!!" [Ed: Perhaps you two lone Colosseum-goers need to meet?!]
