Poll : 07 October - 20 October 2015

Q:
If you have experience of gambling as a visitor to Las Vegas, but also play close to home, do you feel you receive better comps as a 'local' at your regular go-to casino(s) or as a visitor to the Vegas properties you visit far less frequently? Or have you experienced Las Vegas both as a visitor and as a resident and, if so, what was the difference comp-wise, if any? Has it changed over time?

I play at casinos where I live, because they’re convenient, but I think the places I return to in Las Vegas value me more and treat me better. Plus, nowhere else comes close to matching the whole ’Vegas experience,’ which is a big factor too.

I’ve come to feel so unappreciated in the ’new’ Vegas, with its tighter machines, exorbitant resort fees, worsening blackjack rules etc, that I just quit coming altogether and spend my gambling dollars close to home, where they seem to care about me still.

I am still a regular visitor to Vegas, but also play at casinos available closer to home, and on balance I would say that I’m treated better in my local market than I am when go to Vegas.

It depends: I gamble both in and out of Las Vegas, and I feel each destination/experience has its pluses and minuses in different respects. (Please elaborate via email!)

Since I moved to Las Vegas, I seem to get fewer/inferior-quality comps, and general treatment, than I did when I was an out-of-towner who visited a couple or few times a year. As a local, I feel taken for granted, while as a tourist the casinos seemed to make much more of an effort to woo me back, even though I likely gamble the same -- or more -- now.

I used to be a visitor to Las Vegas but now I live here, and I definitely feel I get more and/or better deals and offers as a local than I did before.

If you’re a savvy local in Las Vegas, there are WAY more opportunities to save money and find deals than there used to be. The Great Recession was good in that respect, as the casinos finally started to see our value and I feel this is the best time ever to be a Nevada resident, when it comes to perks. You just need to know how/where to look for them...

I don’t gamble, so this poll just doesn’t apply to me.

I’ve always lived in Vegas, and I can tell you the town has changed a lot for the worse when it comes to comps and how the casinos treat you in general. My advice to out-of-towners is to stay home!

I don’t gamble, but I like how the major casino companies now reward non-players too, and I can accumulate and use my points nationwide, so this trend is a big plus for me, while gamblers all seem to be complaining!
