Have you ever traveled to, or taken a 'staycation' in Las Vegas, with your pet(s)? If so, how was the experience?

| I believe animals, like children, should be left at home. I never have nor would I attempt to bring a pet to Las Vegas for all sorts of reasons. |
|
| I don’t have a pet. |
|
| I have wanted to bring my pet(s) to Vegas but I discovered that many hotels that call themselves ’pet-friendly’ really have such strict rules that they’re not ’friendly’ at all to pets. |
|
| Other - please email us what! |

| In Las Vegas, ’pet-friendly’ seems to actually mean ’dog-friendly,’ and when I tried to find a hotel that would accept my cat [or other species of pet], I failed. |
|
| I’ve found a great pet-friendly hotel in Vegas that makes it easy for me to bring Fido/Mittens if I want or need to. [Ed: Which hotel in particular?] |
|
| While I don’t have a pet-friendly hotel to suggest, I have used a great pet-sitting/boarding service in Las Vegas that I would recommend to anyone who needs a place for their pet to stay. |
|
| I brought a pet to Las Vegas but the experience was not good and I wouldn’t do it again or suggest others try. [Ed: Please elaborate via email.] |

Thanks to all who wrote in for this one; we'll have a follow-up Question of the Day in the not-too-distant future and your input was interesting and informative. Here's a sample of what people had to say and share on the subject of traveling to Las Vegas with a pet:
- "Things that never go to Vegas with us: 1) My geriatric mother-in-law who can't walk. 2) Our dog. 3) Our "cry poor" friends that we have known for years who don't gamble or like to spend money for a good time (food, Vegas shows, etc). 4) My mother-in-law (Yeah, that's goes double for me.)
- "About 3 years ago, as part of a 10 day road trip, we rented a 3-bedroom pet-friendly house in North Las Vegas. It worked out great. It had a large, very private back yard (about an 8 ft wall), pool with a "grotto" & fog machine, outdoor kitchen, etc. Looked pretty new, maybe a couple of years old, and beautifully furnished. My wife found it using VRBO.com. Unfortunately the day after we got in (This was Early October) Vegas set a record cold for that date...so much for the pool It cost about $1200 for five nights, but having two couples, it was only about $120/night a couple, and NO resort fees. Our two large dogs loved it, as did we. The only downside was the traffic, it took us about 25 minutes to get to the strip. I'd do it again if I was bringing the dogs."
- "The RV campgrounds at Circus Circus and Sam's Town are pet-friendly. They have dog parks and Sam's Town sends us free camping offers."
- "I live on the East Coast, so bringing a pet to Vegas would be far too difficult. Even if I could do it, I wouldn't. It wouldn't be fair to my pet to be shut up in a strange hotel room for hours while I played in a poker tournament or video poker."
- "Please keep your pets at home! I like animals and even have a cat, but I also have a mild allergy to dogs and cats and can tell immediately waking up the following morning if a pet slept on the bed. Hate to say it, but I can see resorts up-charging for a smoke or pet-free room in the near future. Then again, I'd pay for it too..." [Ed: The future is here: They already are!]
- "I have, but it was back in the summer of 1995. The only place we could find that would allow us to have a dog was the Glass Pool Inn motel, which is where we stayed for the night."
- "Never had a problem in a Caesars property (with my dog). Some resorts have more convenient relief areas than others; i.e., Flamingo or Caesars (If in the Augustus Tower.) Even the Cromwell was great."
- "I have a Germen Shepherd that is about 75 lbs. She is very friendly -- I bring her to work with me every day and kids love to see her and play with her. They can pull on her ears and tail and she does not mind at all! But if I try to stay at a hotel with her they say that they can't have this type of dog because of the breed and her size. Also, they want to charge extra $$$. On the bright side all La Quinta hotels allow her to stay, but I just leave her at home as it is best for her. I don't have a problem finding someone to take care of her and it gives me a break."
- "I don't remember the name of the motel, but it was an off-Strip (on Paradise) non-casino motel of Motel 6 quality. We stayed twice, but never again.."
- "My dog doesn't gamble, he mostly goes for the buffets." [Ed: :-) ]
- "Pet friendly means dog friendly at Caesars properties. I often travel with my cat by car and have found that La Quinta is one of the few hotel chains that is truly pet friendly. This particular cat has actually been to Las Vegas three times, twice in an RV." [Ed: Funny! But we've had the same problem, hence this poll... My cat and I were displaced for seven weeks (!) this summer by an apartment flood. Personally found Residence Inn to be the most cat-friendly places in town, particularly the Convention Center one, which reserves all its back "chalets" for pet owners and it's all lush with grass and trees, well away from any roads. My cat and I spent 3 weeks there and he settled in the first night. He HATED La Quinta on Trop. as much as I did though! Staybridge Suites was booked by the insurance company as "pet-friendly" but refused to take my cat even for one night, leaving us with nowhere to sleep except a car in August heat.]
- "We stayed at a Residence Inn. It was a major Dog Show, and we hired a pet sitter for the night (7:00 - 11:00) during our stay. A great experience."
- "Unless she was a service dog/animal, why would I bring my 55 pound Lab "puppy" to Las Vegas? She likes to chew things and bark, just like my mother-in-law!" [Ed: Figured we'd end this one just as it began ;-)
