Q:
Paid parking is now in effect at all MGM Resorts International properties on the Strip. With that in mind, and the possibility that other companies will follow, what will be your stance if there’s a $10 charge to park at a casino that you want to visit?

This is a 100% no for me. I’ll take my business to places that don’t charge for parking.
63% (1714)
It will definitely make me consider other options and will probably lower my overall visitation, but I won’t boycott the place completely.
17% (471)
It will be case by case for me. I’ll pay it sometimes, but avoid it if there’s a good alternative like parking next door and walking over.

4% (108)
I don’t love it, but I’m not freaking over a $10 charge. If it’s easiest to park there, I’ll pay it.
3% (81)
I’m a local and can park for free, but I don’t like having to scan my license, so it will affect my visitation frequency.
2% (53)
I’m a local and can park for free by scanning my driver’s license, so it doesn’t affect anything.

Analysis

A pretty unequivocal result for this survey, we see; here's some of your feedback:

  • Being Pearl, I can self park for free; definitely will not pay to valet. After all the changes MGM has made with banning smoking in rooms and now this absurd charge to park, I am definitely cutting back my visits there. If the others follow suit either I will reconsider even renting a car, or just not come to Vegas anymore. They used to know how to treat their customers and make them feel appreciated for losing (mostly); now it's just corporate greed."

  • "I never drive or rent a car when I visit a casino."

  • "I will avoid staying at MGM as I like to stay where I play. Bad gambling odds, excessive resort fees, and now paid parking -- plus dining that costs more than NYC -- is not appealing to me. I have moved my spending to off-Strip casinos and am happy with my choice."

  • "It's more like a 98% no for me. I wouldn't deny myself a unique experience, but with so many casinos, it seems like it won't be hard to avoid MGM properties."

  • "I have always stayed at MGM properties and I will miss staying there! But on my upcoming trip I have decided to stay at an off-Strip (Boyd) property. Even though I can afford to pay the fee, I won't pay it on principle. With hotel and rental car taxes, unfavorable playing odds (6/5 blackjack & 20 cent betting lines), resort/parking fees & de-theming (yes, I like themed hotels) Vegas is not the value it was in the past. You would think they would make it attractive to visit with all the competition around the country, but they are too greedy and desperate for revenue. I think parking fees will be here to stay, because the clubbers will pay. They just won't be getting any contributions from me!"

  • "I voted 'Other.' I have spent less and less time on the Strip in the last few years, and parking fees will only make it still less. But it's possible that I'd go again if my wife wanted to, so I can't say I'm 100% no. Maybe 95-98%. Here are a couple of possibly related suggestions. (1) You may have heard the Monte Carlo is being renamed the "Park MGM." I suggest a much better name would be the "Pay-to-Park MGM." Truth in advertising, and catchy too. (2) I heard that the SLS is struggling financially. May I suggest they put up a billboard with the following message: 'SLS Hotel-Casino Free Parking No Resort Fees No Franchise/Ambience Fees 3:2 Blackjack 9-6 JOB VP.' They would have more customers than they knew what to do with. People would come from the Strip, downtown, and all points between. Until then, maybe I'll see you in Laughlin." [Ed: It's a nice idea, but SLS would have to make some significant changes before it was true ... starting with dropping their nightly resort fee!]

  • "Our timeshare is at the Carriage House, so we will more than likely walk to all MGM properties and use the trams to go from property to property."

  • "I'll take the bus."

  • "I usually get comped wherever I play, so it does't matter. However, if that were not the case, I doubt if a $10 charge would make a difference. "

  • "We used to go to Vegas 3 or 4 times every year. It was fun. We enjoyed it. We knew that the casinos had the odds stacked against us then, but at least they made us feel welcome by providing reasonably priced entertainment and the possibility of winning a buck or two. We are now down to only one, and on rare years, two trips to Vegas annually. Why? First they came up with 6/5 blackjack. Then "resort fees". (What an insulting rip-off!) Now they think we won't mind being gouged $10 to park in their facility so we can go in and lose money there? This is probably the last straw for us. It was fun when you made us feel welcome, but now that you view us like P.T. Barnum used to view those "suckers born every minute" we will go elsewhere. Bye, bye Vegas. Hello local casinos."
