Poll : 02 May - 16 May 2024

Q:

Based on a Question of the Day submission, we decided to rerun a poll on locals casinos from 2017. The question is: What are some of the best locals' casinos to frequent for gambling?

You can vote for as many as you like. But remember, the votes we're after are for the best locals casinos at which to gamble. That includes the good games, the better players clubs, and the easier comps.

Did we forget a locals joint? If so, choose Other and let us know which one(s) in the comments.

Analysis

It's no surprise that South Point ran away with this contest. Go there on a Friday evening and you're sure to find the busiest casino and restaurants, not the least of which is the seafood buffet, plus the bowling alley, movie theaters, equestrian center, arcade, gym, business center, barber shop, and spa-salon, in Las Vegas. The games are among the best anywhere, the players club is generous, and the comps are easy. South Point is the perennial favorite; it placed second in our 2017 poll.

Ellis Island moved up from #6 in 2017 to #2 today. EI is our favorite as well, not only for the good gambling, but all-around value, as evidenced by its perpetual presence in our Top Ten, as well as the Member Rewards Book, with free play and matchplay coupons, plus dining and drinking discounts.

Red Rock placed third this year (fifth in 2017). Even with Durango as the latest addition to Station's fleet, Red Rock remains the flagship.

BTW, if you'd like to see the poll we did seven years ago, here's the link.

Sam's Town, Orleans, and Gold Coast rounded out the top six. They're perhaps less a reflection of whatever value is left at Boyd casinos these days and more of the presence of its casinos all over town.

We were pleased to see several non-Boyd non-Station locals joints make the grade: M Resort, Emerald Island, and Arizona Charlie's Decatur, all in the top 10.

Finally, please accept our apologies over not including Silverton. It was an inadvertent oversight and if the five comments about it are any indication, it too would have placed high in votes.

Hands down my local favorite. Good gambling, really good food options, and nice bar atmosphere. AND MOST OF ALL, great participant in the LVA coupon book.

5 dollar craps at Ellis Island!
I can stay at Horseshoe....and walk to Ellis Island play 5 dollar craps, no 5 dollar tables in Reno or Lake Tahoe that i've found :(

Not even close We sat down there all down there that’s because when I was sitting up on top, it look
South Point has better odds and percentages for players. A dozen varied places to eat at reasonable prices. Bowling, movie theaters, huge and comfortable sports and race books and poker room. No reason to leave the building when you’re done sightseeing. Then free shuttles to the airport. A++

    Let it ride
Why has” let it ride” become less available especially at lower denominations?

  • Scott May-17-2024
    South Point
We used to be Orleans customers ( for almost 20 years ), but the Orleans never recovered from the Covid pandemic. They closed their buffet, restaurants had restricted hours, and the properties upkeep was not maintained. We switched to South Point and have been very happy with the change.Everything is open, the hotel is clean, and the food is great ! Not to mention no more homeless and hookers, which were common at the Orleans in the last 5 years.

    By Far the Best
I agree with the majority that South Point is the best locals casino in town. In addition to all the reasons stated, they have one of the best Poker Rooms around. A good selection of cash games and excellent tournaments.

  • Tommy G May-18-2024
    Very Happy!
Not sure if the Downtown Grand is considered a locals casino but I was very happy to see nobody voted for it! South Point is the best for me.

  • Jon Miller May-18-2024
    Another vote for Ellis
Ellis Island has become our "go to" for blackjack. We stay at Paris and play in the great daily poker tourneys at Horseshoe, and have found the walk to Eliis is really easy. Great microbrews made on site. Food excellent. Gambling odds "the way they are supposed to be". Stage Door casino a great stop to grab really quick "to go" beers as well. Tuscany, right past Ellis is another hidden treasure with a fantastice craft beer bar. Both casinos with 3:2 blackjack now basically EXTINCT on the strip.

    Addition
I participated in this an d voted for SP. Although I will say that each Sunday we play at Eureka before heading to the Italian American Club. The Eureka, even though in a sketchy neighborhood is clean, lots of security and very friendly staff and FAT CHOY, their coffeeshop is great too.
