Poll : 20 January - 02 February 2021

Q:

The question this poll purports to answer is about the coronavirus vaccination.

Thanks to everyone who commented in the poll preview. We took into consideration the number of comments preferring the various options, then voted amongst ourselves for the original yay/nay, a slightly expanded set of choices, a greatly expanded set, or all the possible reasons for yay/nay.

Though yes or no received the most affirmative comments, we're curious about how many of you have already received the vaccine and/or have already had the COVID. So we kind of split the difference and you can choose one of the selections that we ultimately decided on (which most closely match Campbellkd14's suggestions).

And we hope to see a lively discussion in the comment boxes. Thanks to everyone for everything all the time!

I forgot one option but you kind of covered it
Wow, I'm honored you used my suggestions. The one I forgot is the one that most closely means "me" but admittedly this will be a very small percentage of respondents: "I am a participant in one of the vaccine trials/studies and MAY (or may not) have already received it." You kind of covered that with "already received all or part of a vaccine."

    Bill Gates sees me now!
Got the first round shot last week. I’m assuming my tracking microchip was inserted. Second dose contains DNA altering potion, right? And Trump won in a landslide....

    Q for Campbell
Since you were part of the testing, and don't know whether or not you got the vaccine, what do you do? IF you got the placebo, aren't you possibly in danger by not getting it for sure? And my comment is that I chose the first one, when it's available and whatever brand it is. By the way, I'm 72. I wonder about the age demographics, too.

I'm in one of those studies...
so I feel obligated to stay with it unless they decide to terminate it early. After all, I'm a scientist.

    I have to
As a frontline (covid19) MD, I have to try to protect myself by any and all means posible, that includes Vaccination. Even though some of my coleagues have allready gotten theirs, I'm still on the list to get mine. It's very important, that doesn't mean that I won't get infected, It just means that if I do, I'm more protected from complications, that's the whole idea of vaccination, we are still going to need personal protective equipment, we are still going to hace to take care of ourselves and be careful, but it's more protection

    No Side Effects
I received the first dose two days ago. I have not changed any of my opinions. Thus, no side effects. All good. But, I have bought extra tin foil for hats just in case.

Hoping for more dumb, errr ... I mean "uninformed" people
I'm not in a "preferred" category so I can't get the vaccine any time soon (apparently). My best hope is that there are a lot of people afraid of "inserted chips" or other wild government conspiracy plans, or maybe they don't understand science. These folks won't get the vaccine and thusly I will get it my shot(s) sooner because of less demand / greater supply.

    The Darwin effect
An unanticipated side effect of Covid-19 is that it will increase the overall IQ of the population. We know from the data that no-maskers and anti-vaxxers will die in greater numbers than those with functioning brains. I applaud this culling of the herd.

And really, folks---someone who thinks that vaccines are the work of Satan and an insidious plot by liberals to destroy the country---do you want such a person REPRODUCING??

Return to some kind of normalcy
There is no data on whether or not the vaccine can prevent infection. The data suggests that a vaccinated person may become asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic if infected. Not getting severely ill with covid is a good thing. Without data on the vaccine preventing infection, what will change? There is no evidence that people that have been vaccinated can't transmit the disease. Mask wearing and all other mitigation procedures must remain in effect. Because I don't want to get severely ill, if I get the infection, I will definitely take the vaccine ASAP. ASAP is probably months out for me and my wife. I would like to thank my state of Arizona, my county of Mohave and the federal coronavirus task force for doing as poor a job in obtaining and distributing the vaccine as they could.

    will I get smarter?
Husband and I got our first rounds of the vaccine (Covid-19) this morning. Unfortunately I haven't yet noticed a raise in my IQ as predicted by Kevin. In fact, on the way home I stopped at a local eatery to purchase two slices of pie plus today's "special", beans and cornbread. I got home with the pie but left the beans/cornbread; had to go back for them. I suppose I'm expecting the IQ increase too quickly. LOL.

    Getting the shot today
Will be getting the Moderna shot today. Being a teacher, I am finally in the group that has been cleared for the vaccine, as is my wife. Hopeful to get to Vegas in March for Spring Break.

I won’t get the vaccine because Governor Coumo said not to trust it. I must listen to him. He has been applauded for his leadership.

    advice
Take two acetaminophen (Tylenol) right after you get the Covid-19 vaccine. I had a bit of a rough day (low temp, body aches) the next day after the shot. I took Motrin all day. Now I feel fine. Husband got same side effects two days after, only much worse than mine. He likes Aleve so took that. Getting better today. Some folks have no side effects at all...lucky. I normally don't get any from the flu shots, so this surprised me. I will most definitely have Tylenol ready at time of the second shot.

    I Got My Vax
Easy to get vax at Smith's. It was impossible with all other websites, including CC Health Dept!

  • Robin Heller Jan-28-2021
    Already had it!
Had the first dose 10 days ago, will get the other in February. No effects, my arm did not even get very sore. I've been to LV 4 times already, with precautions and good handwashing I survived. I'll be there again as soon as work lightens up! My IQ is already quite high so I don't think it will make a difference!

    Someday soon
Because of the stupendous botch of the vaccine rollout, we've gotten about 40% of the doses that were to be sent to our state. And now, under intense pressure from Republicans, the governor has pivoted from prioritizing older folks to teachers. This is good news for me since I'm actually in both categories, but it's a dumb, dumb, dumb idea overall. We should keep schools closed and make the most vulnerable people safe. But we're going to open back up and damn the torpedoes. Whee.

    Problems getting it.
Our state has received twice the number of doses than the number that has been administered. (Our newspaper runs daily stats.) Problems: For one, navigation of computer appointment systems can be unfriendly, to say the least. Pharmacies won't take appointments by phone, though I do get why. "You must bring your confirmation email to your appointed time", even if you are a 30 year patient of the pharmacy or healthcare system; perhaps an elder without a computer or the expertise to run it. Of course this is intended to insure that you fall into one of the approved categories of the day. To think there is vaccine out there that someone can't get just because enrollment web sites can be difficult to navigate. Sad.
