Poll : 02 October - 15 October 2019

Q:

We last ran this poll on your favorite things to do in downtown Las Vegas in April 2011. To show you how much things have changed over the past eight and a half years, of the 31 choices in that poll, nearly half of them are obsolete. In fact, a half-dozen major venues no longer even exist (Las Vegas Club, Mermaids, Girls of Glitter Gulch, Du-Par's, Flame Steakhouse, Western). So it's well past time to take a poll on the updated pulse of downtown.

A big debt of gratitude to all of you who added suggestions for this survey last week on the QoD preview page. It's clear that many LVA.com readers are fans of and highly knowledgeable about downtown, so this should be a fun poll with a lot of participation.

Analysis

This poll garnered more than 3,500 votes, which isn't surprising, given the 56 choices and downtown's popularity with our readers (as noted in the poll question).

We believe that it's a testament to the diversity of downtown's attractions that the top 10 vote-getters include four gambling choices, two museums, two other entertainment options, a buffet, and hotel rooms without resort fees. No wonder LVAers vastly prefer Fremont Street to the Strip.

Numbers 11 through 20, as well, comprise a free souvenir and spin, three attractions, three food and beverage choices, and of course Sigma Derby, again a favorite of our crowd.

Beyond those, we were a little surprised that the Viva Vision show and Slotzilla zipline placed in the bottom half. But only 28 of you don't like downtown, while four have never been there. Neonopolis, even at #47, placed higher than we'd have expected (we took a long look around a couple weeks ago and will report in an upcoming Advisor); we also eat at La Monja, so in time, more people will appreciate the hidden little scene at Fergusons Downtown.

As always, thanks to everyone for voting and participating in the poll preview. We knew this would be a good one!

    Yearly Coupon Run
For the past 10 years every October my partner and I hit Downtown for a 2 person Coupon Run, For the Match Play coupons (Plaza, Downtown Grand, the D, Four Queens and Golden Gate) we usually get to play Black/Red on roulette and have yet to lose to a 00/0. But over the years our fortune has been on the Free Slot Play at Binions, Plaza, Four Queens and Downtown Grand, we have 2 Royals to our credit. Our next scheduled "RUN" is Monday October 7, 2019

    Love Downtown!
I so love Downtown ~ even though some things are a’changin’ (new hotels on the horizon etc) I am so glad that still quite a lot of “old” Vegas remains. I always say on the strip (cause my Mum likes it there) but every time we visit I always take a “me” day and Downtown is where I head ~ such a wonderful different flavor and atmosphere to experience. Super easy and safe to take The Bus from/to the Strip (albeit a little slow when traffic is thick - but no worries on that - I’m on vacation lol). I just tried Heart Attack Grill this year. What a frickin hoot! The poll gave me a lot of new things to try ~ thanks for that ~ can’t wait to go again. 😊🎰.

I hate what's happened to Downtown?
I used to be a big fan of Downtown. But then it got younger and cruder and much much LOUDER. I won't stay Downtown any more, I won't take guests Downtown unless they specifically ask to go. Sorry, but many of the choices on your list are exactly the reasons I WON'T go Downtown any more. Maybe the new Circa will add some class back to the area but I'll believe it when I see it.

    Coupons
I go twice a year, stay at the 4 Queens, and rent a car. I am going next week to finish off the rest of the gambling coupons and food coupons. I have been going over 40 years and prefer downtown because the rules on blackjack are better and I can walk to many casinos without wearing myself out. Strip is too much walking. I like the free entertainment too. Probably because even at my age, I still like rock music. Craps games and sports books are very friendly and best rules. Can't wait........

    Doesn't feel safe anymore
I, too, hate what has happened to downtown. The buskers are super annoying and it really has gotten seedy and feels unsafe. Maybe better in the daytime but not at night. I always made the trip downtown but will only go if there is something I want to see at the Smith or others in my group really want to go.

    Why this way?
The posting date system used here fractures my brain.

Who places the year, then the month, then the day of the month?
    As in 2019-10-19.

    British? French? Canadian?

I can live with it, but why?
