Poll : 11 October - 24 October 2017

Q:

Continuing our buffet series, this poll concerns the AYCE mid-range, from $20 to $29.99 for the regular dinner (no specialty nights). We've listed the 13 buffets in this class from the lowest to highest price and included the prices for better comparison purposes. M Resort fanatics, here's your chance to go nuts! You can vote for as many as you like and as always, comments are most welcome, as are ratings on the individual buffet pages themselves.

Analysis

Unlike the first poll on high-end buffets, there weren't any surprises from the results in the mid-range.

Mainly, M Resort's Studio B, as expected, kicked butt! It garnered slightly more than one out of five votes and placed six percentage points ahead of the second choice. Interestingly and indicative of the Studio B's image, it received far more comments on the high-end poll from respondents spotlighting it and wondering where it was than here in the mid-range, where it's the fourth highest-priced buffet.

Harrah's, one of the two highest priced mid-rangers, placed pretty low at seventh; the other, Flamingo, fared even worse, at eighth out of 13. No surprise there: We agree that they're pretty pedestrian, especially compared to Stations' two, Red Rock (#2) and Green Valley Ranch (#4).

Planet Hollywood is more a remnant of its pre-Caesars Entertainment days than reflective of its current status of a CET casino, which is why, though it's been dumbed down a bit, we still like it.

Two of MGM Resorts' three, Luxor and Excalibur, are the same price as M, but you can see the public impression of those (placing ninth and tenth respectively); Circus Circus' buffet is and has generally been the standard for bad buffets, even though it's priced the same as Red Rock and the Orleans!

Stratosphere and Westgate came in as afterthoughts.

Thanks to everyone, as always, for voting and commenting. The series continues with the current poll and 21 of the lowest-priced buffets.

    Best Buffet
The " M " was the first and is still the best buffet in the mid price range catergory.

    Just say no
Trips are too short to eat at any of these buffets. We can only put down one a day and these just don't make it. Circus Circus has to rate as the worst buffet we ever had but that was many years ago.

Lines are way too long at Red Rock and Green Valley is not as good as is used to be.

    Sunset Station
The Henderson Sunset Station is my wife's favorite buffet in Vegas. Not sure why it wasn't on the list. Sometimes a lot of these buffets are crowded with locals because they receive 2 for 1 coupons in the mail and they wait until the last moment so they crowd in on the last day.

Haven't found any buffet that meets the criteria of the M. That said, any buffet seems to serve an ordinary breakfast of bacon and eggs for a cheap price. But the M is far from ordinary, breakfast or else.

    Two good
I voted for M: terrific food, wine included, bite-size desserts (the better to taste more) and the gelato/cappuccino/liqueur bar. Red Rock is a close second, food is delish; tho I agree the lines are too long. Table turnover seems inefficient at RR, leading to unnecessarily long waits. M is very efficient and not reluctant to give a single diner a booth.

    Value Buffets
At one time, we made the stop at Harrahs on every trip. In the last few years, they have priced themselves out of this kids market. There is no way ANY of their meals are worth more than Planet Hollywood, yet they think so. I noticed the last few times we have been down that way and walked by the buffet, the crowds are a lot less now and I suspect the pricing had a big part of causing that. Someone needs to wake up or close it down.

    Planet Hollywood
I've always thought this was the most overrated buffet in Las Vegas, going back to even when it was the Aladdin.

    Why no Silverton?
Silverton was not included in either the lower or mid cost. Why not?

    Golden Nugget Buffet
The only surprise in these poll results was to see the Golden Nugget buffet ranked so highly. We have been there three times (breakfast once, dinner twice) and have been really disappointed each time. The food quality wasn't good, the variety wasn't impressive, and overall we have determined not to bother with them any more. Maybe we just hit three off days? We'll give it one more try based on this poll.
