Poll : 22 January - 04 February 2020

Q:

Three years ago, we ran a poll on your favorite locals hotel-casinos. Looking back at the archives, we discovered that we've never run one on your favorite Strip resorts.

Yes, yes, we know that with resort fees, paid parking, lousy gambling, and the herd on the street, many of you avoid the Strip at all costs. Still, we also assume that you do have a favorite Strip hotel-casino, even if it's just your fondest memory of the last time you were there. The list includes only resorts that currently exist, not ones that used to be. And there's an extra choice at the bottom.

Based on the comments on the poll-preview page, we're looking for the one casino that you like best overall. Breaking them down by casinos, rooms, restaurants, buffets, shows, nightlife, amenities, and attractions, we'd have to run multiple polls and that would get boring fast. Our last poll on best local casinos was a "simple popularity contest," so we're applying the same criterion to this one too. However, since there are a number of criteria for casino fondness, we're allowing multiple votes, like we did for the locals poll. We're also including a general choice off a good suggestion by ZZDoug that you'll find at the bottom of the list.

From north to south (and yes, we're including Stratosphere, which won the poll we ran on the question last year handily, 58% in favor of and 42% against, but not South Point or the M, which aren't on the Strip proper and were included in the locals poll), here are your choices.

Analysis

This simple popularity contest lines up about as expected, with two of the top three results an indication of the prevailing sentiments about the Strip these days from Las Vegas veterans and readers of this site.

Beyond that, the first six most popular casinos can be grouped geographically at center Strip (easily walkable from the free parking garage at Miracle Miles Shops). Then, we note, come two megaresorts that don't charge for parking: Wynncore and Venetianazzo.

We're not all that sure what Bally's and Harrah's offer that would rank them in the top ten, but to each his/her own.

And only a couple percentage points separate the next 14 Strip casinos, which is close enough to be a virtual tie in our book, with Circus Circus and the Sahara bringing up the rear. That should change when Resorts World, the Drew, and the Las Vegas Convention Center expansion are completed in the next few years

Most of my old favorites on the Strip have been imploded...
and the few remaining (Trop, Flamingo, ...?) have morphed into something I don't even recognize any more.
On my first visit to Las Vegas in 1969, I stayed at Westward Ho. Later at Stardust, Thunderbird, Circus Circus shortly after they built the first hotel tower, IP, Landmark (technically not on the Strip), Greek Isles (ditto), Frontier, and one or two others. By the 1990s, I was completely off-strip at places like Bourbon Street, Hard Rock, and Terribles; and also downtown, until downtown hit the skids around 2010.
I'm still staying off-strip these days, but the list is short and getting shorter. Maybe this recent bunch of sales and lease-backs will eventually lead to a revival of the Strip; but I'm not counting on it.

    multiple votes?
It wouldn't let me select more than one.

    Old Hands
We were married in Vegas 27 years ago and usually come back at least once a year. The strip has become a circus we only enjoy in small spurts (shows, Restaurants, sightseeing etc). Downtown Fremont St. is the only place to stay for us. Great history and fun people watching and I think a better gambling experience. We hope the new Circa being built isn't the start of the strip barging in. If you haven't played on Fremont, do so soon while is still a little bit funky.

    Get stripped?
A show and some food, but I won't play or stay.I'm mostly a lookie-loo on the strip. Uber down and back to downtown. The strip buffets are way over-priced.I'm good for about 4 miles on foot and then I'm DONE.

    Strip
I voted for Bellagio only because I enjoy visiting the Conservatory twice a year when I’m in town.
I save my comps from Harrahs in Atlantic City to use at the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar’s.
I have seen a few shows at Strip properties.
Otherwise, I don’t go to the Strip and I *never* play there.

    Strip only wants tourists
I checked going only for a purpose, show etc. For the most part the strip casinos want tourists not gamblers as evidence of most not having coupons in the LVA but the do run most of there buffets on Groupon so I stay away.

    Are you kidding me
We go to the strip and gamble and win from time to time. Like all gambling, in the long run you will loose. You have to be selective as to where you play as all things are not created equal. There are some strip casinos where we never win, thus we never go back. The Aria, Cosmo, Bellagio and the Wynn still serve good cocktails while gambling, not the watered down version which have become the norm at most other strip properties, if they even serve you. As to parking, parking is still free at all MGM properties as long as you get their no fee credit card which upgrades you to pearl tier. Too bad Jean Scott isn’t around anymore to pass these tips along to visitors. Enjoy the strip there is only one in the world like it.

    I do have favorites but...
I rerely go to the strip any more due to paid parking, and overall lack of care and service at the mega resorts. It used to be very diferent back when the strip was inviting, even in the family friendly era it was good, or great. Now with the de-theaming, the higher and higher prices, hiden fees, it seems they stoped caring about the average tourist and are simply cattering to the whale. To bad, I hope they return to the days when they treated everyone well. meanwhile I will be staying at locals hotel casinos where they make an effort at least.

Big Elvis earns Harrahs my vote
. . .along with only visiting for particular purpose.
We agree w nearly all comments. Add to boogiman's that Total rewards visa card does same as Mlife card -- gets you player card upgrades and free parking. These are necessary as we visit strip for shows, always Big Elvis at Harrah's piano bar. And while we never play strip vp or BJ, we'll play craps before a show, like Kimmel's Comedy, Miracle Mile's Beatleshow or Mandalay's Gospel Brunch.

    strip casino
casino royale is about the only low table minimum joint on the strip anymore...craps, bj, etc it seems to still have some vegas flavor and vibe to it like a few joints downtown...peace

    Just Casinos?
There a few very nice hotels without their own specific casino, but are part of a property that has one...

    caesars palace
I stay there for 2 nights January 18 2020. I stay in the palace room with a whirlpool bath tub which I Love. I am a diamond member so I can book rooms for about 110 average weekdays here for that room. it is worth it.

    No more strip....
Stay one nite on strip to help wrap up wife convention(shes on board)...then move downtown. Better gambling and the ease of going to different casinos, can do more in less time, why would anyone stay on the strip?!?!?
