Poll : 25 October - 07 November 2017

Q:

Completing our series on buffets, this third and final poll surveys all the low-end spreads, with retail prices for the regular dinner (no club discounts or specialty nights) of $19.99 and less.

Interestingly, this is the largest of the three price categories, with 21 buffets running between $9.99 and $19.95.

You can vote for as many as you like and please, let us and everyone hear the reasons for your picks and preferences.

Analysis

This one's a no-brainer: Main Street Station is twice as popular as the number-two low-end buffet. End of story? Well, not so fast.

Why not? Because the fact that Silverton placed second, with 55 more votes than the Gold Coast in third, is not only amazing, but misleading.

If you don't know, you can read in the comments that we inadvertently left out Silverton initially and only popped it in there three days after this poll launched when VegasDawn pointed it out to us. We'd already logged more than 1,000 votes by that time, so Silverton's results are no doubt more than a little inaccurate. Still, it's abundantly clear that Silverton's Seasons Buffet comes in at at least second and probably would have given MSS a better run for its money if it had been there from the beginning.

The same is true for Palace Station, which was also left out initially and finished with a fairly strong showing, ninth out of the 22 choices.

Otherwise, they lined up about as you might expect based on price, with the more expensive buffets toward the top and the less expensive ones toward the bottom -- except for South Point, which at $19.99 is the most expensive in this group, but placed seventh from the bottom.

Suncoast especially, but also Primm Valley, Fiesta Rancho, and Cannery, might want to take note that theirs are among the higher priced dinner buffets, but lowest ranked.

We found two surprises in the results. First, that the Fremont's buffet placed as high as it did, fifth of 22. Based on other feedback we've received over the years (plus social-media reviews we monitor), we'd've expected it to come in lower.

And second, the Rampart buffet came in lower than we'd've expected, 13th out of 22. But that's just subjective, as it's one of our personal favorites.

If you haven't voted in the current poll, here's your chance to choose your favorite buffet of them all without any concern for price, location, or wait times. Due to the screw-up with this poll, it'll be interesting to see where Silverton winds up relative to Main Street Station.

    South Point
South Point is by far the best in this category. Their breakfast buffet is amazing: scrambled eggs with lox, spinach, the usual fresh omelets, ham sliced to order...I can go on and on.

    Sam's Town
Their buffet never disappoints. Omelet station is great, and always great service! Lots of quality for the price!

And it is far from the maddening crowds of other buffets. Always a "must do" when in Vegas!

    Oh well
I haven’t been to any of these buffets, so I can’t vote.

    Complainers who can't read
I imagine shortly people will start complaining that their favorite buffet isn't listed because they hadn't bothered to read the question. At least that is what happened for the first 2 categories.

    Missing
I think Palace Station should be on this list, they are a great value for breakfast, and I use them frequently when I'm in town.

    Outdated?
I moved from Vegas 6 years ago and haven't been able to frequent the local, cheap buffets like I did so often when I lived there. But, here's my take. I hope things haven't changed too drastically. The Fiesta in Henderson is/was great for having lots of good cookies in the desert area. The Rampart, although a small buffet, usually had/has good quality and I liked the hot chocolate machine. Main Street Station had/has a nice selection and good quality. All the Stations were/are very similar and nothing all that special, although I prefered Texas Station. They seemed to be very consistent and didn't disappoint. Railroad Pass is cheap for a reason!

    All "low end"
We only checked off the ones we have frequented, Main St, Gold Coast, Charlie's Decatur and Texas (I should have added Fiesta Rancho, too)but what you call low end, I call reasonable. We don't need the flashy expensive items, just good food and plenty of choices. Actually, ALL the Station Casino buffets are very good.

The poll was for dinner buffets?

This buffet has improved over the last few years. Coupled with so many BOGOs for this buffet it''s a winner. CHeck out seafood night and compare the legs with Bellagio, I did not see a difference.

    Sticking to breakfast
I find most of this class of buffets to be a good deal for a weekday breakfast, when they are usually well under $10 and include all the coffee and other soft beverages I want, plus tips for waitserver and omelet chef. Maybe for lunch as well. For dinner or on a weekend, I'd almost always rather go to a full-service restaurant.

You cannot beat one excellent low price buffet at less than $15 ; especially the all-day weekend BRUNCH !!!

    MSS
From the first time we went there to the last ime in September of this year, MSS has the best quality and value buffet anywhere.

  • That Don Guy Oct-25-2017
    To be honest...
The only two of these I have ever been to are the Fremont and Arizona Charlie's Boulder, and both of those were specialty nights (Steak and BBQ, respectively)

  • Gill Strand Oct-25-2017
    South Point
South Point has a fine variety of foods, very friendly employees and your beverage glasses are always full. Rather than 3-4 possible sugar free or no sugar added desserts, they always have a full case of them. A very nice addition.

  • Bucky Oct-25-2017
    Gold Coast
We like this dinner buffet because there is prime rib every night - the only buffet on this list that serves prime rib, as far as I know. Good selection of other items to go with it.

  • vegasdawn Oct-28-2017
    Where is Silverton?
It was not in the mid range, and now is not on this one either. Where is it? It definitely deserves to be included.

  • JerryD Oct-28-2017
    "all the low end spreads"
You didn't include Palace Station or Silverton, but you did include the Railroad Pass. What gives?

  • Deke Castleman Oct-28-2017
    Sorry!
Sorry about Silverton, which was inadvertently left out. We've added it in. Too bad, because we're sure it would've placed high. It's a great buffet for the price (I ate there last week with Jean and Brad) and really liked it.

    sorry x 2
Kinda blew this one. Palace Station now included. Thanks for the eagle eyes.

    Silverton
We frequently eat at Silverton. Not only is the food excellent but the ambience far exceeds any buffet in this price range. In fact all of the restaurants at Silverton have amazing decorating; we often wonder who the designer was for those restaurants. They offer intimacy not found at many larger buffets. In addition, Silverton has many dining promotions that often allow you to eat BOGO or free. Try the Bellini Brunch on Sunday for a real treat.

    Silverton & MSS
We voted for 5, but Silverton is my absolute favorite and my hubby's is Main Street Station. Silverton possibly had the best deal. Last time we went with our coupon, I think we paid $10 for both of us. The best mac and cheese I have EVER had at a buffet. Hubby had fresh fish tacos too. Great stuff! Will try again in two weeks!

  • Sharon Dufour Oct-29-2017
    Palace Station & Silverton
If Palace Station and Silverton had been on the original list, I would have voted for both of them.

Sam's Town always comes through with a great breakfast. Everything hot and fresh.

    Gold Coast
The Gold Coast buffet is always clean and offers a good selection of food. I particularly enjoy their breakfast buffet. The made-to-order omelets are fantastic. South Point buffet is also very good. I have never been disappointed there, either.

    reason
    Fremont has best sushi

  • Ray Nov-11-2017
    results--less expensive buffets
I did vote for the Main Street, but I think the results can also be skewed because most of us haven't been to many of the buffets listed. Many visitors can go downtown or near the Strip, but don't get further away (like Texas or the Fiestas, etc). Locals probably mostly stay near their homes and not way on the other side of town, too. So, while interesting, I'm not sure the rankings necessarily reflect the quality.

    Suncoast
The Suncoast is way under rated.
