Poll : 14 February - 27 February 2018

Q:

Happy Valentine’s Day, all you lovers! In honor of the day, St. Valentine, and romance, we’re taking a poll on the most romantic things to do in Las Vegas. The list is random; they're in no particular order (except perhaps the last two choices). Vote for as many as you like and, as always, we'd love it if you explain your choices in the comment boxes.

Also, thanks to those of you who made suggestions in the poll preview last week.

Analysis

These results aren't far off from what we expected.

The gondola ride down the middle of the Grand Canal Shoppes isn't exactly Venice, but it's not too bad a facsimile thereof (for Vegas).

And Hugo's Cellar, with its rose for every lady, tableside salad service, petit fours, and old Vegas ambience, remains near at the top of the list even 42 years after it opened and all the romantic places that have come to Vegas between now and then.

We were a little surprised that tied for second, with exactly as many votes as Hugo's Cellar, is the idea that Las Vegas is now devoid of any romance at all. A telling statistic for sure.

Beyond the top three, dining in rooms with a view is always special; getting married and renewing vows are among the most romantic things you can do in this life; Sinatra, Mizumi, and Oscar's are perennial romantic faves; a date at a strip club placed just under hiking in Red Rock Canyon (both of which, depending on the time of year and other circumstances, can be sweaty affairs); even Marriage Can Be Murder (which we threw in as kind of a joke) received more than a dozen votes.

Thanks to everyone who voted, commented, and commented with suggestions in the poll preview.

    LOVE
I picked dinner and the Conservatory but that would be incomplete without seeing Love by the Beatles. OH, and some chocolate at the Patisserie (formerly Jean Philippe). Sorry I missed the preview poll!

    Helicopter...
You’ve got helicopter ride over the strip listed twice. Combine it, and it shoots up to 10th place.

    Left out
You left out "huddled together watching the Bellagio fountains going off with the romantic music". Just because that is free doesn't mean it isn't very effective.

    Everything too crowded
I'd have voted for the Gondola and the Fountains in past years before the crush of humanity began to make things more trouble than romance. Good for Vegas economy though. But...watching from our window, I occasionally see an incoming Limo slow way down when a fountain show is going. I imagine it to be for a first time to Bellagio. THAT would be romantic.
