Poll : 28 April - 11 May 2021

Q:

To date, upwards of 85 million Americans, a third of all adults, have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. In the latest surveys, 20% of Americans (of whom 43% are Republicans, 22% are independents, and 5% are Democrats, while 15% are teens and young adults) say they will avoid the vaccine.

In an effort to gauge, to an extent that's possible, the long-term recovery of the Las Vegas visitor market, we'd like to compare the latest national survey statistics to our own, which will, perforce, consist of Vegas enthusiasts, notwithstanding an older demographic that will skew the results somewhat in favor of the vaccines.

We took a number of your suggestions, so the poll looks pretty messy, but ... what the heck. It might ask about everything including the kitchen sink, but we figure it'll be more fun this way.

Thanks for all the feedback and we're sure everyone would like to see more comments about this issue.

Analysis

Exactly as expected, given our reader demographic, the most respondents are fully vaccinated out-of-towners over the age of 50 who didn't visit Vegas until after receiving the second or full jab. Meanwhile, more than 100 intrepid travelers damned the torpedoes and visited before they were fully vaccinated. Again, given our Vegasphile respondents, that sounds about right to us.

We have a handful of local readers. A distinct minority are planning either to wait for more data about it or, for various reasons, not get vaccinated at all.

And four poll-takers are under the age of 30, while half that number are over 90. (Which might bode well for the continued existence of the Las Vegas Advisor.)

I can only choose one option
I think you mistakenly turned on the radial buttons instead of the checkboxes because I can only select one option.

  • Dave_Miller_DJTB Apr-28-2021
    One option — AGAIN!
It’s becoming ridiculous how often a poll designed for multiple choice answers is set up to use the single choice option.

    Only One Option
You may want to redo this poll. We can only choose one option. To answer it: I am fully vaccinated, I visited before (last summer) I was fully vaccinated and also between my first and second dose just a few weeks ago.

    one choice
I am already vaccinated but could not include that I am an out of towner nor my age bracket. Why???

    Vaccinated
I visited before being vaccinated. Tested positive for Covid when I got home (not sure where I picked it up, it could have been ANYWHERE, Vegas or home). Then I got vaccinated and returned.

    Button
I echo the need to allow more than one button, since I was unable to check the demographic information.

    Choice
I can only select one option as well. Don't think your results will tell you anything if just one answer is given. I was trying to convey that I have had the first shot, I'm an out-of-towner, and what age group I'm in. I can only tell you one of these things, not all three.

Now enabled. Sorry for the oversight.

    Not there, but should be
"I'm not going to get vaccinated because some wackadoodle TV pundit told me that it's all a conspiracy to implant us with mind-control computer chips."

I had the vaccine in February and March...
Went to Vegas once in July, long before the vaccinations--and would have gone again if I'd had a comp offer. To Laughlin three times: October, New Year's, and April (between the two injections). Also to Mexico in November.
OTOH, in January I had lunch at a Chinese buffet restaurant which was allowed to be open under state and local regulations, was exercising all precautions, and wasn't even very crowded. When my significant other--who was along on all the above-mentioned trips--found out, I was restricted to the spare bedroom for a week and then had to go and get tested (negative). Some CDC report had said that buffet restaurants were COVID hotspots.
I wouldn't go as far as Kevin with the microchips; but I do think that politicians at all levels--and the media and various celebrities--have been willing and even eager to use this situation for their own purposes.

I will get vaccinated when the people in charge act confident that it works. They say it works. Then why is Biden and Fauci still wearing masks? To get vaccinated and still have to wear masks makes no sense to me.

    Vaccine cards
A good additional two selections would have been: "I am in support (or opposition) to Casinos and / or large events (Raiders, Golden Knights, etc.) to require vaccination proof." I am in favor of both.

  • Bob Nelson Apr-28-2021
    Why wear masks after vaccination.
Several reasons. The vaccines are highly effective but not perfect. The vaccines take several weeks before they reach full effectiveness. And it is called setting an example that you are willing to do what you are asking others to do. It also avoids the hassle of dealing with people claiming to have been vaccinated when entering a building that requires masks, just keep treating everyone the same and require masks until we reach hed immunity.

perhaps some moderation would be apropriate

If you want to sell the vaccine and convince others to get the shot it only makes sense for our leaders to unmask. What they seem to be showing us is that they don't have confidence that it works. That is the way I read their message.

Both my Wife and I were vaccinated in early March. Since then my wife gave blood and I had a blood test.
Both tests showed we had COVIC antibodies in our systems. It works! Neither of us ever had it before. As far as proof of vaccination goes. NO ONE should be able to get ANY our personal health information. Just another right lost.

    Ready but Wary
I hadn't got shot#2 when I voted in the poll; now my family and I are fully vaccinated AND have 5 comped nights (July 4th week) reserved. 'Haven't been to LV since Feb 2020, still watching for variant surges following the LV re-re-re?-opening. I don't worry about the government (anymore), but I worry about a real-life Andromeda Strain, Outbreak, The Stand, etc.

    applause for honesty
I actually applaud those who admitted that fear of needles is the reason they won't get the vaccine. An honest answer, as opposed to those who say they are waiting for more information (whom will you believe before you get sick and die?) or that the vaccines "don't work" (and how do you know this?). Or that it violates your liberties (Have you taken this up with your mother? Did she violate your liberties by taking you for your baby shots so you didn't have to suffer measles, mumps, chicken pox and the rest?).

Oh, well, you have that right. Hope you don't suffer for it.
