Analysis
Well, you're all seem more indulgent, if all the comments of all the polls and QoDs are taken into consideration, than indulging; your indulgences have, to a certain extent, become somewhat tamer over the years.
We've run this poll three times in the past decade and here are the links to the last one, in July 2017, and the first one, in April 2010. Feel free to compare for yourselves; the choices in the three polls don't line up exactly and this poll has many more than the others do, thanks to suggestions in the poll preview that wound up as choices this year. But here's a thumbnail of what we see when we do the comparisons.
First, gambling is the number-one indulgence in all three polls. However, it attracted 38% of the vote in 2010, 34% in 2017, and only 19% in this poll. Does it mean that fewer of you are gambling? Or that more of you no longer consider gambling an indulgence? Maybe a combination of both?
This poll's number-two choice, drinking during the day, wasn't a choice in the other polls, in which the number-two choice was staying up all night and sleeping during the day. But it's safe to assume that Las Vegas visitors who are sleeping during the day aren't drinking (unless they're hooked up to a vodka IV or something), so these don't quite compare.
In the other two polls, splurging on expensive meals tied for third, which is about as different as it can be from this poll's third-place vote-getter: ignoring the news. This poll, of course, was conducted when the news was uniformly bad, so it's not hard to understand.
Drinking shows up in the top categories in all three polls: twice in the top five of this one, "get drunk" in fifth place in 2017, and "too many adult beverages" in fourth place in 2010. Pot smoking wasn't legal in the previous two polls, though only 23 respondents admitted to it this time around,
Buffets didn't show up in either poll (who was creating these things back then?!), but as an indulgence, they might be a thing of the past, at least as we know and love them, for a while. Sad.
As for sex, you guys are obviously slowing down. Fully 110 of you were having one-night stands in 2010, compared to only 27 this time (wasn't asked in 2017). Only 15 are still going to brothels, compared to 78 in 2017 (not asked in 2010). Only six of you still bring the secretary, exactly half in 2017. And there was an upsurge in topless sunbathing in 2017 at 107, with 43 in 2010 and only 14 this time (toptional options have shrunk over the years).
The rest of the choices you can see for yourselves using the links. It might have something to do with the tenor of the day (a pandemic, social unrest, economic uncertainty, mask-wearing, social distancing, and cowering at home), but your indulgences this time around seem to pale in comparison to the previous polls -- and we're kind of bored.
