Poll : 11 April - 16 April 2019

Q:

Thanks to everyone for commenting on yesterday's Question of the Day concerning the polls and previews.

Based on the feedback, especially from Flaxx, we're postponing the scheduled poll on outdoor-dining venues to run this simple survey on what you'd like to see us do with the polls.

A:
1009 Total Votes
I like the idea of conducting polls separate from Question of the Day.
27% (274)
I like the polls and results, but I could do without the poll previews.
24% (239)
I prefer the status quo: two poll previews, two polls, and two poll results per month.
21% (209)
I'd prefer an occasional poll on no set schedule, perhaps only when a QoD (like whether or not the Stratosphere is on the Strip) warrants one.
11% (110)
I like the previews and results, but two polls per month are one too many; I vote for 12 per year.
10% (103)
No poll previews, polls, or results, period. All Questions of the Day, all the time.
7% (74)

    Purpose driven
Are polls perhaps geared toward developing future coupons; i.e. can LVA convince merchants to offer discounts based on certain poll results? That is a good purpose.
"Eighty percent of our readers voted they are likely to patronize a new [bar, restaurant, theme park, etc.] if offered a discount coupon."

Some questions, e.g. how many alcoholic drinks per person per...day or visit...(not clear from yesterday's analysis) are not likely to affect anything.

Data could be extracted from comments to a similarly structured QOD, but that would be more laborious for whomever is collecting it. And would miss the votes of readers who aren't prone to comment.

    Occasional and purpose driven.

And only one issue per poll, options clearly stated. No "I would xxx if I xxx, but when I bring my xxx..." Readers can always make those comments after they vote if so inclined.

    Poll Survey
I check the Advisor every day, and I don't mind the polls. If the subject is not one I care about, I don't vote or pay much attention to it and I feel the same way about the QOD. Sometimes I just glance at it. However, some of the poll comments are very interesting, as are the QOD comments. I have gotten good leads on attractions/restaurants, etc. from both. The poll preview is a good idea, as it helps focus the poll. Most of the additions to the poll from reader comments help focus it and make it more useful.

    Limited utility
...as poll data, for all types of polls, not just LVA's, are skewed toward the subset of people who actually respond to polls. But I find them entertaining nonetheless.
