Poll : 17 February - 02 March 2021

Q:

We used to run this poll every year, but those were in the days when we could list at least dozen big openings, sometimes closer to two. This year, we've managed to list 14, though five of those are pandemic-related. The question is, which future Las Vegas attraction are you most looking forward to opening?

Thanks to the suggestions in the poll preview, we've added the Majestic (the $850 million 45-story non-gaming hotel  planned for the former site of the Clarion Hotel), Atari (a hotel branded for the venerable video-game company), and Bleutech (the $6 billion futuristic "city" in south Las Vegas). We've also changed The Drew back to the original Fontainebleau, now that the property has been sold again, this time to Koch Real Estate and Fontainebleau Development, the original owner/builder.

Essentially, we'd like to know if you're more excited about Virgin, Resorts World, or the Palms and how eagerly you anticipate the Sphere and new Pinball Hall of Fame.

Analysis

LVAers sure love Main Street Station! It's a bit of a shock that the reopening of the downtown casino beat the debut of Resorts World for what y'all are most looking forward to hereabouts. We like MSS too and our fingers are crossed that the great buffet there will return when the rest of the property does.

We weren't surprised that the Pinball Hall of Fame was right up there in the top three. The PoHF has a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike; it's unique in many ways, not the least of which is that all the machines are operational and playable for a quarter, plus it's a non-profit, so it's mostly a labor of love for the founder and his wife and all the volunteers that keep the place running. The extent of affection for it was recently evident, when it launched a GoFundMe campaign and managed to raise more than $200,000 to keep it alive; the new building on the Strip will open in the next couple of months.

Of course, many people are curious about what the new Virgin will look like and the Palms is running closely behind. (We anxiously await the Palms to reopen for the buffet and Side Piece Pizza, which this writer deems the best in town).

Slightly more people want to see the Fontainebleau open than don't care about any of it! But we were a little surprised by how far down the list MSG Sphere is. This is going to be an amazing arena -- even if you never step foot inside. The outside sphere will be a screen, which we're greatly looking forward to seeing.

    I Can't Vote
I should have suggested: None of the Above

    Doesn't matter
Because of the pandemic, it seems like everything is going to be somewhat different. I look forward to the day that we can visit any or all of the possibilities AND the other places that we have missed during the past year by not being able to go.

Why I chose Pinball Hall Of Fame
I speak several languages, and am proud to be fluent in Sarcasm. This sarcasm extends to anything that has to do with the large corporate casinos.

I have to keep asking myself, "what new ways have they invented to gouge the customer?" almost invariably the find a new,. often very inventive way to squeeze money from the customers. (A prediction, a surcharge to the resort fee..."RDF - Room Disinfection Fee" is coming.

In my opinion all of the large corporate openings will be great...for the casino, but bad for the gambler.

Go to a new casino and you get to spend $10 for a bottle of Michelob while searching for an open Video poker game that has horrible odds. I wrote them off immediately.

Again, in my opinion he Pinball Hall of Fame will be the one new place that i will have to see when i am out there. It is run by a non-profit company, and has a very targeted purpose and audience. I'd rather donate $50 to a good cause than pay $20 for parking that used to be free.

    looking forward?
Cautiosly looking "forward", Yes I'm looking forward to the opening of Resorts World, Palms The Drew ( or whatever it's beeing called this week) Virgin, etc, but I'm being very observant on the future of resort fees (or what they will call them next), and parking fees,I realy hope they stop trying to get all their money upfront and start to work for it ( better service, welcome atmosphere, etc). oh I'm dreaming again, sorry, I'm day dreaming again.

    Time of open buffets.
There is no need to keep the Palms and Main Street station closed. Those were both so popular and had great buffets!! It is time to open more buffets. South Point did it.

    Only in Vegas...
I SO miss the 400-pound guy playing the ukulele and wearing only a thong, who pre-pandemic, could be found at the Fremont Street Experience soliciting donations. I mean, Vegas just ain't the same without him. I look forward to his return, maybe with an upgrade such as a rhinestone-studded G-string.

@Texas Transplant, about the Pinball Hall of Fame...
In case you haven't heard the latest news: the owner sold the current property and has to move out by early April. The only problem is, with the reduced revenues caused by the pandemic (among other things, only half the machines can be turned on at any time), he needs an additional $100K or so to pay the builders to complete the building in time.

No reason the buffets should remain closed
The South Point showed how to do it... it's like the buffets were pre-Covid, but servers dish out the food for you instead of dishing it out yourself. You still get what you want, and you don't have to worry about the person who handled the ladel before you got there. The buffets were the main attraction for us in coming to the casinos, with gambling being something we did while there. With the buffets gone, our casino visits have been cut way back. Ellis still has some good deals worth making the trip, but the other casinos, particularly Stations, are missing out on our action.
