Analysis
You can hear the music booming around center Strip, especially from the outdoor stage at Carnaval Court at Harrah's. Plus, the Piano Bar just inside the casino always draws a loud and rowdy crowd -- so it's no surprise that they garnered the top two spots.
Cleopatra's Barge, of course, has been around just about forever (it was here when we first showed up in the mid-'80s), so for longevity alone, it deserves its place at #3. Also, it's a great venue. It's gone through a few incarnations over the years and tickets aren't cheap these days, but you can see the likes of Wayne Newton, Dionne Warwick, and David Perrico's String Orchestra in a highly intimate setting for the price.
We also agree with the places of the next several vote-getters: O'Shea's Pub is a small throwback to the beloved O'Shea's Casino; Bourbon Street Cabaret at the Orleans always has hot contemporary acts; the Bar at Times Square at New York-New York has had a dueling-pianos show since practically day one; and Roxy's at Sam's Town has an incredibly varied lineup of nightly bands, from classic lounge to country, Latin dance to boogie, crooners to Top 40. And they're always free.
Beyond those, you can't go wrong at any of the rest of the lounges on this list. When we go out, unless it's a show we're reviewing or a headliner we want to catch, we invariably wind up at one of them. They're the great unsung entertainment bargains in Las Vegas -- and always have been.
