Question of the Day - 22 May 2004

Q:
What does the term "cashback" mean?
A:

Cashback is a casino complimentary given primarily to slot and video poker players. While most comps consist of free meals, shows, and rooms, cashback is a monetary rebate. It’s paid out in proportion to how much you gamble, at rates that vary between .1% and 1%.

You need to be a member of the slot club to earn cashback (and comps) for your machine play. Slot clubs are free to join and easy to use; all you do is insert your slot club card into the proper slot in the machines you play and the casino's electronic tracking system does the rest. You earn slot club points for your play and, periodically, you can go to the slot club booth and check on what your points have earned you in terms of comps, such as free meals, free rooms, and other hotel-side amenities -- and cashback, which is hard money. The booth attendant will give you a voucher, which you take to the casino cashier (or cage), where you collect the cash. Remember that you'll need photo ID to complete either a comp and cashback transaction.
