The Strip monorail, which connects the MGM Grand to the Sahara, with stops at several casinos in between, was supposed to debut back in January. But operating glitches with the driverless-train system have been plaguing the monorail for months, and no opening date has been set, though spokespeople insist that the monorail will start running "some time summer" and that a grand-opening date will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the construction company and the monorail-systems company are racking up penalties of $85,000 for every day past January 20 that the monorail isn't ready. So far, nearly $8 million in penalties has been assessed, of which $3 million has been paid.
