Question of the Day - 14 July 2004

Q:
When I go to Las Vegas I like to play video blackjack. Do the same basic stratagy rules apply to video blackjack as opposed to the table game?
A:

Video blackjack basic strategy is the same as the table game's. Often video blackjack games pay even money on blackjacks, but this does not change basic strategy at all. In addition, video blackjack often has a number of rule variations that aren't frequently seen on the table game, such as a player's 6-card unbusted hand is an automatic winner or that you may only double on 10 or 11. Even so, regular BJ basic strategy is still going to get nearly the maximum payback. The strategy variations have a very small effect on the house edge.
