We called around to find out -- and thus far, it appears that most reservations departments at the hotel-casinos haven't gotten the news that the 2004 Comdex has been called off. Normally, the week before Thanksgiving would be a slow period (which is why Comdex was originally scheduled then), but most rates don't reflect it yet.
Some do. The lowest rate we found was the Westward Ho, charging $29 weekdays and $41 weekends. Those are worthy of December and July rates. The Lady Luck is getting $35 weekday and $70 weekend. At the Plaza and Las Vegas Club, it's $39/$69. A great deal location-wise can be found at the Tropicana: $40/$100.
Otherwise, in the low-end catergory, the least expensive room for the week of November 14 through 21 is at the Four Queens and Terrible's ($49 weekday, $89 weekends at both). Fitzgeralds is $54 and $69. The California, Main Street Sation, and Fremont are $60/$80. Bourbon Street is $79/$79.
The mid-range hotels start at $40/$120 at Palace Station. Sam's Town is at $45/$125 and Stratosphere is at $46/$110. From there, the rise if fairly steep: Stardust $60/$115, Suncoast $80/$140, Sunset Station $80/$200, Luxor $89/$129, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, and Treasure Island $99 and up, all the way up to MGM Grand at $170.
High end: The Palms at $129/$229 is the least expensive, while the Four Seasons at $285/$385 is most expensive.
A better play is to wait a week or so and come in late November or early December, befvore the National Finals Rodeo comes to town, when room rates will be among the lowest of the year.
