For this answer, we turned to our very own Jean Scott. Though she and her husband Brad are the youngest seniors we know, if there's a discount to be had based on their age, Jean's the one who'll know about it. Here's what she says.
For a long time, casinos didn't offer discounts or special promotions to senior citizens. They claimed -- rather lamely, I always thought -- that their promotions and loss leaders, and even their prices in general, were so low that they couldn't be discounted further.
No longer! Now casinos promote to senior-citizens big time; senior discounts are as common in casinos as they are in all other businesses. Many have a slot club-within-the-slot club with special cards for the over-55 set. Some have special prices for attractions and meals; a few even have particular times when senior citizens actually eat free. Others put on events, such as exercise classes, investment seminars, and mini-Elderhostels for geezers like us. If you're over 55, keep your eyes peeled for promotions that'll save you money and improve your quality of life.
In general, the locals casinos have the best senior discounts. Las Vegas is a haven for retirees like Brad and I, and the neighborhood casinos rely on repeat customers from people with time and money on their hands. Station Casinos, in particular, seem to cater to the senior crowd with enthusiasm.
But if I had to cite one casino that has the best discounts, I'd say Boulder Station. They were the first to open an over-55 slot-club-within-a-slot-club (if I recall correctly), and they have the most developed program for the over-55 crowd (as far as I know.
