Question of the Day - 22 August 2004

Q:
We love the fountain show at Bellagio. Can you give us any statistics on it -- how many individual fountains there are, how many computers are used, that type of thing?
A:

The Bellagio fountains stretch 900 feet across the 27-million-gallon lake. Within that space are 1,200 individual fountain nozzles, which can handle enough pressure to shoot streams of water as high as 200 feet into the air. The show is illuminated by 4,500 lights (mostly white). Each show runs roughly five minutes.

The best view of the overall spectacle is from the top of the Eiffel Tower directly across the street. The second-best view is from the Eiffel Tower restaurant; the drinks are dear, but you can take the elevator up for free and sit at the big picture windows overlooking the Strip for the cost of one. Actually, you don't even have to buy a drink, but it's easier if you do.
