Here's an article that Anthony Curtis wrote for the July 2004 LVA, on the subject of single-0 roulette. If, having read it, you still want to play the game, there's a link to a list of all the single-0 wheels in Las Vegas, together with their hours of operation.
First, I want to make it clear that I wouldn't play roulette (without a coupon) unless I had a gun at my head -- and even then I'd probably be obstinate. Let me explain why.
Assume you go to a roulette table and bet a chip on number 3, because 3 is not on the illuminated roulette reader board and hasn't hit for a while. But the table-minimum is five chips, so you reach to put a chip on number 11. Wait! Since you've already decided that 3 is the most likely number to appear, wouldn't it make more sense to bet another chip on 3 rather than on the inferior second choice 11? Maybe, so you drop the chip on 3. Now you feel an urge to bet number 29, which is the number you tell everyone is your age. But again you realize that this is foolish, since you've already assured yourself twice that number 3 is coming up next. In fact, if you wager on any number besides 3, to some extent you'll be betting against yourself. Eventually you put all five chips on 3, with a few other chips on red, odd, low, the first dozen, and the third column.
The way I see it, wagering at roulette is always a trip through confusion, not to mention negative expectation, because for every bet discussed above, you send your money directly into the jaws of a bad bet. How bad? That's often up to you.
Though the number of options isn't equal, in Las Vegas you have a choice between playing wheels with either one or two zeros. Playing on single-0 wheels reduces your expected rate of loss from 5.26% to a much more manageable 2.70%. That's a saving of almost 50%.
Where can you find a single-0 roulette wheel? There are currently only fifteen casinos in town offering single-0 games. Considering that this version is the mainstay of European casinos, it's surprising that there aren't more in the Mecca of Gambling. What's more, several of these casinos discourage ordinary customers from playing at their single-0 wheels by imposing very high table minimums, and restricting their hours of operation. Some are open only upon specific request from high rollers. Still, roulette players should check these tables first before playing, to make their gambling stake last longer.
The accompanying list identifies all the casinos in the Las Vegas area that have single-0 roulette wheels, at least part time.
