Question of the Day - 19 October 2004

Q:
When do they intend to implode the Tropicana?
A:

It's hard to say exactly what's going on at the Tropicana. In late 2003, the Clark County Commission approved preliminary redevelopment plans that would transform the Tropicana into a 4,190-room hotel and an expanded and completely renovated resort. Tropicana executives, at the time, claimed that a decision on whether or not to pursue these plans would be made by the end of the first quarter 2004. The Trop even suspended booking large groups and conventions past May 2004.

Well, May 2004 came and went without any word from the Tropicana. Since then, rumors have swirled that the Tropicana is a candidate to be the next 1950s-era Las Vegas casino to be imploded, to make way for a new megaresort. But nothing definite has been revealed.
