Question of the Day - 11 November 2004

Q:
What can you tell us about Primaris Airlines, the lower-cost service airline which will start flying in 2005 based in Las Vegas? Have they selected their target domestic destinations?
A:

Primaris Airlines is slated to begin commercial flights out of Newark in the spring, with city pairs eventually targeted for:

  • New York (i.e., Newark)-Los Angeles
  • New York-San Francisco
  • New York-Chicago
  • New York-Atlanta
  • New York-Dallas
  • New York-Denver
  • Washington, D.C.-Chicago
  • Washington, D.C.-Los Angeles
  • Washington, D.C.-San Francisco

There will also be several international destinations paired with New York, LA, and San Francisco. These will be the travel destinations for the first two years of operation, after which the company's routes will expand to other large domestic and international destinations based upon demand. These additional destination cities will include Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, Seattle, Boston, and Portland, among others.

In short: This airline will have nothing to do with Las Vegas commercially (other than being based here) for at least two years. On the upside, if and when it does begin operating out of Las Vegas, travelers should be in for a treat. It claims to have no middle seats on its planes -- instead, flight capacity will be roughly half that of typical airlines (with no change in plane size), and each passenger will enjoy leather, first-class-sized seats with plenty of legroom.
