Question of the Day - 20 May 2005

Q:
Which is the best spa downtown?
Ken Van Vechten
A:

Contributing expert Ken Van Vechten writes:

The best spa downtown is the Golden Nugget’s … by far. Then again, the Nugget is the only downtown hotel-casino with a spa -- excluding, of course, the occasional jet o’ steam, when a hot-water pipe at the Western springs a leak.

But fear not. The GN spa is commendable, offering the full array of amenities -- whirlpool, steam, Swedish showers, two co-ed gyms, etc. -- in a comfortable environment. It has a short menu of massage therapies, including Swedish and deep tissue, with an aromatherapy option. Body treatments, facials, and manicures/pedicures are handled in the salon; unlike the spa, the salon is open to non-guests. There’s a $15 "facility fee" for the spa, but this is waived if you buy any of their packages. You can book up to two weeks in advance; a 50% fee is charged if you cancel less than four hours ahead of your appointment. You must be 18 or older to use the facilities.

Starting prices:

Massage therapies -- $80 (55 minutes) Body treatments -- $75 Facials -- $40 (mini) and $60

For further information or reservations call 702/386-8164 or 800/634-3403, or visit the Nugget's Web site at www.goldennugget.com/home/amenities/spa/
