Yes. Generally speaking, implosions are scheduled and announced months in advance. In the past, a number have been extravaganzas -- such as the Dunes being imploded at the same moment that Treasure Island opened in November 1993, or when the Aladdin was imploded at 7:30 p.m. in April 1998, in the midst of a huge street party.
But the trend of late has been to hold implosions in the very early hours of the morning, when traffic on the Strip is at its lightest and fewer spectators create less crowd-control problems. The Desert Inn tower, for example, was brought down at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2004, to little fanfare. Still, the day and time were announced far enough in advance for people to be there if they wanted.
