Question of the Day - 30 August 2005

Q:
Can the general public attend the G2E Global Gaming Expo?
A:

The short answer to your question is no.

Now in its fifth year, G2E is a conference and trade show for the gambling industry that’s held annually at the Las Vegas Convention Center and is open to industry professionals only. After several calls to the organizers, we eventually obtained confirmation that anyone attempting to register who doesn’t fall within the recognized occupational fields will have the application rejected.

The registration form gives the following options to choose from in terms of your company’s primary business: bingo, charitable gaming, commercial casino, cruise ship, gaming club, I-gaming, lottery, Native American casino, parimutuel, racino, resort, riverboat/dockside, and "other." The latter includes banking/investments, consulting, education, government, industry association, law firm, marketing/advertising agency, publication, regulatory, supplier/manufacturer, and "other," which you can specify, but your company’s business in these fields must be gaming-related in order for you to qualify.

Of course, the products and services featured at the show reflect the growth of megaresorts, which incorporate a lot more than casinos and hotel rooms in their repertoire. They include audio/video displays, golf products, entertainment and attractions, retail, and spas, in addition to more obvious categories like slots, game design, security, and surveillance. So if your business is even indirectly related to gambling, you can get into G2E.

If you’re eligible and would like additional information or a registration form, you can visit the official Web site at www.globalgamingexpo.com.
