Question of the Day - 12 October 2005

Q:
Every time we're in Las Vegas, we make it a point of having a drink at the bar at the Ranch Steakhouse, at the top of Binion's. The ride up in the glass elevator we think is one of the great free thrills in town. Are there any other glass elevators that go to the top floors of Las Vegas hotels?
A:

As far as we know, including Binion's, Las Vegas has six glass elevators.

The Tropicana has one that goes to the top of the Island Tower. It overlooks the big pool area and, of course, you can see beyond, looking west at Excalibur and the Spring Mountains.

The Rio's glass elevator goes up the south side of the big tower to the VooDoo lounge and restaurant. It's accessible only during the VooDoo Lounge's open hours, which are 5 pm - 2:30 am. Admission is $10 Sunday-Wednesday and $20 Thursday-Saturday. Local ladies get in for free.

On the north side of the Las Vegas Hilton, a glass elevator overlooks the Sahara and Stratosphere. You can also see beyond to downtown. This elevator is unguarded and therefore open for public access.

Palace Station’s glass elevator faces north, offering views of Stratosphere and the downtown area. It's restricted to hotel guests.

The Palms’ new 40-story tower hosta a Playboy Club on its top floors, with a glass elevator overlooking the Strip.
