Question of the Day - 12 November 2005

Q:
I'm coming to Las Vegas in February for a medical convention and I'd like to be able to walk to the Las Vegas Convention Center from my room. If you could list the hotels within walking distance of the Convention Center, along with their approximate distances, it would be most helpful.
A:

The Marriott Renaissance, 3400 Paradise Rd., 866/352-3434, is right across Desert Inn Road from the Convention Center; call it a three- to four-minute walk. The 14-story hotel opened in December 2004 with 548 rooms, Envy Steakhouse, and Aroma coffee shop.

The Las Vegas Hilton, 3000 Paradise Rd., 800/732-7117, is adjacent to the Convention Center on the north side, a five-minute walk; you don’t have to cross any streets. With 3,174 rooms, you can usually get one if you call far enough ahead of even the largest conventions.

Las Vegas Courtyard by Marriott, 3275 Paradise Rd., 800/661-1064, is directly across Paradise Road from the Convention Center, a six-minute walk. It has 149 large rooms and a 24-hour food market.

Greek Isles, 305 Convention Center Dr., 800/633-1777, is on Convention Center Drive about halfway between the Convention Center and the Strip. The 228 rooms are very convenient to both, about an eight-minute walk to a convention.

Las Vegas Marriott Suites, 325 Convention Center Dr., 800/228-9290, has 255 suites and is a nine-minute walk, a minute farther than Greek Isles, though it’s much more modern.

Riviera, 2901 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 800/634-6753, has 2,075 rooms. It’s right on the Strip, but find the back door and it’s only a 10-minute walk down Riviera Blvd. and across Paradise Road.

Best Western Mardi Gras, 3500 Paradise Rd., 800/634-6501, has 314 suites and is an 11- to 12-minute walk north on Paradise.

Residence Inn by Marriott, 370 Hughes Center Dr., 800/331-3131, is a mile and a half from the Las Vegas Convention Center in the Hughes business park. It has 192 suites; plan on 13 to 14 minutes.

Amerisuites, 4520 Paradise Rd., 877/774-6467, with 202 suites, is down Paradise Road, a long block, across the street from the Hard Rock. It’s a 14- to 15-minute walk from both the Amerisuites and the Hard Rock.
