Q:
About this new casino, the Cosmopolitan, that just broke ground. I understand it's next door to the Bellagio. But I also understand that MGM Mirage is building a huge urban village between the Bellagio and the Monte Carlo. How does a big megaresort like the Cosmopolitan fit into the lay of the land there?
A:
A long and thin eight-acre parcel between Bellagio and the Boardwalk isn’t owned by MGM Mirage; it wasn’t part of the original 165-acre Dunes property that Steve Wynn purchased in the early ‘90s.
The Cosmopolitan will be squeezed into this narrow strip, which will dwarf the existing Jockey Club timeshare building on three sides. The fourth side of the Cosmo will be the Harmon Avenue extension west of the Strip, which will separate it from MGM Mirage’s Project CityCenter.
