We contacted the Las Vegas Monorail, just to make sure about this. Here’s the official response:
"Tickets are good for one year from the date they are printed. The fare increase has no effect on previously purchased valid tickets; the fare-gate ticket scanners only process whether a ticket is still valid or has already expired."
As previously listed in the Transportation section on this site, the new Monorail fare structure that came into effect in December 2005 is as follows:
$1, one ride (locals) $5, one ride (visitors) $9, two rides (shareable) $35, ten rides (shareable) $15, one day (non-shareable) $40, three days (non-shareable)
Although it was originally announced that the special $1 fare for locals would be available in individual ticket form, monorail officials issued a press release on January 3 explaining that, in an effort to reduce the potential for ticket scalping while new distribution systems are being developed, for the time being this fare is available only by purchasing a 20-ride pass for $20. They hope that by mid-February, single-ride $1 tickets for locals will be available from customer-service booths located at each monorail station.
