Question of the Day - 27 January 2006

Q:
Is there anywhere around town that has Country-Western line dancing?
A:

Yes, we know of a couple of options.

In addition to its famous mud wrestling and mechanical-bull riding, Gilley’s, located inside the New Frontier on the Strip, has line dancing Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 pm, with free dance lessons from 4-6 pm on Sundays. Admission is free before 9 pm with a $10 cover charge thereafter and the venue stays open as long as the crowds remain — typically until 2-3 am during the week and 4 or 5 am on the weekend.

Dylan’s Dance Hall Saloon, located at 4660 Boulder Hwy. between Boulder Station and Sam’s Town casinos, is another favored honky-tonk hangout that has line dancing every Friday and Saturday night from 7 pm "until the cows come home," and offers free dance lessons from 7:30-9 pm both nights. There’s no cover charge. Call 702/451-4006 for more information.

Update 05 September 2008
The bad news is, since this question was originally submitted the New Frontier, and with it Gilley's, has been imploded; the good news is that the owner subsequently opened a new venue at the extreme south end of the Strip (well, actually, more south than that) called Stoney's Rockin' Country. Billed as a "cowboy ultralounge," it offers line dancing (including lessons), live music and, of course, the famous mechanical bull.
