The 99¢ bacon-and-egg breakfast was once an icon of Las Vegas meal deals, along with the 99¢ chuckwagon buffet and 99¢ bottled beers. Back in the day, you could get a 99¢ b&e breakfast 24/7; as food prices went up in the late '80s and early '90s, this meal deal was scaled back to graveyard hours. The 24-hour special held on into the mid-'90s at places like Nevada Landing and the Gold Strike in Jean, the Cal-Neva in Reno, and the Tahoe Biltmore on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, but now it's exceedingly rare to see it anytime but late at night. Even then it's hit or miss.
The last late-night 99¢ breakfast the Las Vegas Advisor reported was in April 2004 at the Wild Wild West, which offered biscuits and gravy, eggs and pancakes, and french toast and bacon. The last 99¢ bacon-and-eggs special covered in LVA ran in the spring of 2003, also at the Wild Wild West with longer hours than others of its ilk -- from 11 pm to 9 am every day.
Barley's, today, offers a 99¢ "Senior Silver Breakfast Special" for slot club members aged 55 and over (must present valid ID). The meal is served 8 to 11 am Monday through Friday and consists of two eggs, home fries, bacon and toast, and is available only with the purchase of a beverage.
We also found a 99¢ biscuits-and-gravy breakfast at the Gold Strike in Jean and the Klondike, which also has the cheapest bacon or sausage-and-eggs options available to the general public that we came across for $1.49 (a graveyard special served from 11 pm-6 am). For the same price you can also substitute the eggs for two hot cakes or have biscuits and gravy. The next cheapest bacon-and-eggs with toast options were for $1.99 at Jokers Wild and Wild Wild West (which also comes with hash browns).
Specials come and go, however, and often are not announced or promoted, so if any reader comes across a great deal somewhere, be sure to let us know.
