The little old Boardwalk closed on Feb. 9, 2006, to make room for a parking garage for MGM Mirage's 66-acre $7 billion Project CityCenter metaresort.
The first phase of CityCenter will consist of 18 million square feet of developed space, including a 4,000-room hotel-casino; three 400-room boutique hotels; 1,625 residential units in condominiums, hotel-condos, and private residence clubs; and a half-million square feet of retail, dining, and entertainment space.
Touted as the "most significant privately funded project in the United States," CityCenter is scheduled to open in late 2009.
