On March 28, 2006, Alka-Seltzer celebrated its 75th anniversary of providing relief for gastric excess with an attempt to serve the largest buffet in history. Appropriately enough, the event was held at the Las Vegas Hilton, here in the world capital of buffets and over-indulgence. Hosted by comedian Kathy Griffin, who took the first bite, the buffet successfully broke the former Guinness World Record by serving up a total of 510 dishes, including BBQ-style beef ribs, Mongolian chicken, salmon Wellington, cheese quesadillas, crispy buttermilk fried chicken, beef tenderloin tips braised in red wine, Tandoori chicken, soba noodle salad, chef- carved Bourbon glazed ham, wood-roasted chicken breast, tiramisu, New York-style cheesecake, and German chocolate cake, prepared by more than 20 chefs and sous chefs from the Hilton.
We were informed by the publicists for the event that nearly 800 people attended, who each paid $7.50. All proceeds went to America's Second Harvest, largest charitable hunger-relief organization in the U.S.
