Yes, on May 24 the promised press conference took place in the theater at the Mirage that's been custom-built for the new show. Unfortunately, other commitments prevented us from attending the event, which apparently featured a sneak preview of some of the show, but we did receive the electronic press package, which includes the images below, soundbites from interviews with cast and crew members, and some b-roll from the show itself, which you can access by clicking here.
Sir George Martin who, along with his son Giles, music-directed the show and was present at the conference, had this to say about the music: "We wanted to make sure there are enough good solid hit songs in the show, but we don't want it to be a catalog of 'best ofs.' We also wanted to put in some interesting and not well-known Beatles music and use fragments of songs. The show will be a unique and magical experience."
From the clips we've seen so far, we can confirm at least some of the songs that will be featured in the show, which include "Hard Day's Night," "Get Back," "The End," "Lady Madonna," "Here Comes the Sun," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," and "Octopus's Garden." We'll share additional insights and tidbits as they become available and will be reviewing the show for LVA at our earliest opportunity.

In the meantime, it was recently announced that yet another Cirque du Soleil extravaganza will be hitting Las Vegas later this year, when DELERIUM, the group's first live arena event, headlines at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sept. 8 and 9, 2006, as part of the show's North American tour, which kicked off in Montreal in January 2006. Tickets, which are priced at $135, $99.50, and $69.50, go on sale next Saturday (June 10) and will be available from the venue's box office and all Ticketmaster locations. In a departure from classic Cirque style, the music for this show, which features 11 musicians, six singers, 18 dancers, eight acrobats, and four main characters from a total of 20 different countries, will for the first time include lyrics in real languages (English, French, Spanish, Wolof, and Portuguese) that have been specially created in place of Cirque's usual invented language. Again, we'll keep you posted about this event as more details become available.
