Question of the Day - 01 August 2006

Q:
My wife and I enjoy certain slot machines more than others. How do I obtain a listing of which slot machines are in which casinos? Can I get that information online from a single source?
A:

We've lost count of how many times we've received questions along these lines, especially from people desperate to locate a favorite machine that's vanished from the spot where they last played it. Until now, we've been unable to help, since no casino ever listed that information and the slot managers we've approached about it explained that the turnover is so great, even they're never entirely sure what they're carrying or where it is on the floor on any given day. But now that's all changed, because Harrah's has launched a new searchable, national database that enables you to look for your favorite slot and video poker games at all Harrah's properties by location, denomination, name, and type.

We've checked it out and it seems to work, although we haven't had a chance to cross-check with the casino floors to see if the information is accurate. The only facet of this new function that doesn’t seem to work yet is a link that professes to enable you to find out the current level of all the progressive jackpots in each of the states where Harrah's has a presence: We tried it a few times and it just wouldn't load. Still, that minor glitch aside, it's a pretty impressive new feature and something we know that a lot of people have been wanting for a long time. Now let's just hope the other big players follow suit and provide a similar service.

Click here to check out the Harrah's Slot Finder, or simply go to www.harrahs.com and click the "Slot Finder" icon on their home page. Happy hunting!

Update 23 August 2006
Another source for finding slots, specifically IGT slots in their "Megajackpots" range, is by visiting www.megajackpots.com. This is a national database, searchable by city and state, that will give you the current jackpot levels of your favorite IGT slots, and where to play them.
