Q:
Do any of the hotels on the Strip offer free wireless Internet access with a room? Is there any place to get a free Internet connection on the Strip in general, such as a coffee shop?
A:
It's been over a year since we last addressed this issue, and in the intervening months a lot more casinos have switched to offering wireless Internet access -- for a fee, naturally -- plus there are now even more free "hotspots" around town, from coffee shops to donut shops and sports bars to sushi bars, not to mention McCarran airport, which offers travelers with Wi-Fi-enabled computers and PDAs unlimited high-speed access to the Internet 24/7, from virtually any public area of the airport. Update 19 September 2006
Thanks to the readers who wrote in with the following additional information:
With regard to your Question of the Day September 19, 2006 - a number of casinos (I know Caesers and Harrahs for sure) have free-standing terminals on which you set up an account and for a minimum of, I believe, $5.25 paid by credit card, you can access the Internet. Your account stays active and any unused funds remain on your account until you use it again. The company is anywwwhere Internet Access.' I used it and it was great!! Very convenient."
And:
"You should include my favorite (FREE) Wi-Fi spot, Fortuna Coffee Bar at the LVHilton. I stay there almost everytime b/c I work from home and teach online ... it lets me work for free."
