Question of the Day - 27 September 2006

Q:
Aside from blackjacktournaments.com, where can I find information about blackjack tournaments?
A:

Blackjacktournaments.com is an excellent site run by bj tournament expert Ken Smith (who recently emerged victorious from the heads-up finale against "Hollywood" Dave Stann in the first episode of CBS' "Ultimate Blackjack Tour"). For a long time, this was pretty much the only online source of blackjack-tournament information, and it continues to feature good listings and some very informative forums.

While LasVegasAdvisor.com has been covering local Las Vegas tournaments for some time, we've only recently embarked on a program of national -- and even some international -- tournament coverage, and now have a dedicated team of in-house researchers who keep this information as up to date as possible. This is due in part to our ongoing mission to continue expanding the quantity and quality of information on our Web site, and partly because we’re now also providing the blackjack content, including tournament schedules, for the new All In magazine.

We won't pretend it's an easy task -- tournament schedules are notoriously subject to change at the drop of a hat, and the recent resurgence of interest in blackjack is resulting in new tournaments popping up all over the place, often in relatively small venues that don't register big on the national radar, but are nonetheless important to those who live and play in their vicinities. We predict that the number of tournaments, both recurring minis and major one-off events and mini-series, will continue to grow in the coming months, and we intend to stay on top of this trend. So if you know of a tournament that isn't currently listed on our site, please let us know and we’ll rectify the situation as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you're interested in playing a blackjack tournament, whether in Las Vegas, or Washington state, or Canada, or St. Kitts, we hope you'll find our Tournament Search function useful. By clicking on the Tournaments link listed under "Gambling Info" on our home page, you can search by date and/or geographically to discover when and where tournaments are taking place; you can also find out which Las Vegas casinos offer invitational blackjack tournaments as a perk to their preferred players. And we don't just list bj tourneys: If you want to know about slot tournaments, or poker, or craps, or video poker, or even -- in Las Vegas -- backgammon and euchre, we list those too.
