Question of the Day - 22 October 2006

Q:
What's the latest news on the Lady Luck?
A:

In January 2006, it was announced that the Lady Luck would close within a month for a year-long remodeling. The venerable downtown hotel-casino, which opened in 1964, did indeed shut down on Feb. 11, though details of the plans for it were, and still are, a bit sketchy.

We gave a call and found out that the hotel is slated to reopen in December 2007, a year or so behind the original schedule. The whole property is being renovated, with "all-new everything" inside and out. Though early speculation had it that the hotel would be converted to condominiums, the new Lady Luck, apparently, will remain a hotel-casino, with two new parking garages.

Update 25 April 2008
The Lady Luck is still closed, apparently the victim of cash-flow problems. Hindsight being 20/20, the decision to close the casino (along with the rest of the property) while the makeover was in progress seems to have been a fatal error.
