Question of the Day - 28 October 2006

Q:
I read in Casino Player magazine that there's a new slot machine out called "Deal or No Deal" that's based on the game show. I have tried to locate it in Nevada, but no luck. Any idea where I could find it? Thank you.
A:

Yes, there is a slot machine based on the popular game show that's currently airing on NBC. Just like the TV version, the "Deal or No Deal™" casino game gives players the chance to strike the best deal possible by rejecting or accepting offers from the bank for a cashbox containing a hidden win amount. All the possible amounts that could be contained in the player's cashbox are displayed on screen and by a process of elimination, the player can get a better idea of what his cashbox may be worth.

During the elimination process, the bank makes offers to buy the cashbox and the player must decide if he believes his cashbox is worth more than the bank’s offer -- just like on the TV show. We haven't played or even seen the machine in the flesh yet, but we understand from the game maker, Atronic, that the base game on the slot version also has three other bonus features: the Lucky Spot, the Triple Chance, and the Path Finder. These are triggered when three or more Chance symbols appear anywhere, and require the player to press the "vote" button, which in turn triggers a vote by the virtual studio audience on the bonus event awarded.

In terms of where you can go to play "Deal or No Deal," currently available in penny and nickel denominations only, the options are numerous. A full list of the casinos in Las Vegas that currently have it on their floor was kindly supplied by Atronic, and is as follows:

  • all Station properties
  • Mirage
  • Terrible's
  • Plaza
  • Four Queens
  • Eldorado
  • Joker's Wild
  • Circus Circus
  • Bellagio
  • Vegas Club

  • Emerald Island
  • Piñon Plaza
  • Luxor
  • Aladdin
  • Tropicana

Update 25 October 2006
Thanks to the readers who've written in with the following local feedback about other casinos around the country where they've spotted these machines:
  • I saw the Deal or No Deal slots at Casino Morongo near Palm Springs. They have just two units, by the $1 Wheel of Fortune Machines. But at Morongo, I think the Deal machines were $1 machines with a max of $9 per spin, and the progressive jackpot had topped $30-thousand.
  • I've personally seen DEAL OR NO DEAL at: Seneca Niagara (Niagara Falls, NY), Caesars Indiana, Horseshoe Council Bluffs (IA) and have been told it's also available at the Grand Casino (Tunica)
  • "There are Deal or No Deal penny machines at the Silverton Casino in Las Vegas." (We've checked: It's true.)
