Question of the Day - 03 November 2006

Q:
Which Strip hotels allow pets? Not just seeing eye dogs.
A:

Not many. In fact, if you're talking strictly about on-Strip hotels, the answer is one, and that's the rather pricy Four Seasons, at the far south end of the Strip.

If you're prepared to be slightly off-Strip, the Westin Casuarina will accommodate you and your furry friend.

In general, you're much more likely to have luck with a non-casino hotel, particularly the really high-end ones or the suite-type accommodations aimed at the business traveler. Fees and/or deposits often apply, as do weight and breed restrictions.

What follows are the full results of our most recent survey, with the policies in place at those accommodations that will accept pets:

Hotel-Casinos

  • Ellis Island Super 8: Charges $15 per night. There's no limit on number or size of pets.
  • Green Valley Ranch: Charges $100 per night plus a $300 refundable deposit. Pets must weigh less than 20 pounds, "give or take a couple."
  • Hacienda: One section of the hotel allows pets for $20 per night plus a $100 refundable deposit. There's no weight limit.
  • Speedway: Charges $10 per night. Pets must weigh no more than 20 pounds (they don't actually weigh them, but begged us not to show up with a brace of elephantine-sized hounds) and are limited to two per room.
  • Westin Casuarina: Charges $35 per stay plus a refundable $150 deposit. Pets weighing more than 40 pounds must be approved by a manager.

Non-Gaming Hotels

  • Four Seasons: Pets are allowed free of charge, but they must weigh less than 25 pounds.
  • Hawthorn Suites: Charges $50 per stay. There's no weight restriction, but only two pets are allowed per room.
  • Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas: Charges $125 per stay. Pets must weigh no more than 25 pounds and there's a limit of two per room.
  • America’s Best Value Inn and Suites: Charges $25 per night. Pets must weigh no more than 60 pounds.
  • AmeriSuites: Charges $10 per day. Pets must weigh no more than 30 pounds and only one pet per suite is allowed.
  • Candlewood Suites: Charges a $75 non-refundable deposit or $150 non-refundable deposit for 7 days or more. Pets must weigh no more than 70 pounds.
  • Emerald Suites Nellis: Charges a $50 non-refundable deposit and for long stays it’s an extra $10 a week. There are no weight restrictions but pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Doberman Pinschers are not allowed.
  • Homestead: Charges $25 per night and after three nights, it's $75
  • Howard Johnson: Charges a $50 non-refundable deposit
  • Vagabonds: Charges a $30 non-refundable deposit
  • La Quinta Inn-Airport, Nellis, Summerlin, Tropicana, & Lakes West: No deposits or fees, but pets are not permitted to be left in the rooms alone.
