The Regional Transportation Commission has proposed replacing the landscaped median that runs along the center of Las Vegas Boulevard S. from Sahara to Sunset with bus-only lanes and express bus stops. The RTC designated this plan as preferable over a $1 billion rapid-transit bus line from North Las Vegas to Henderson.
Whatever happens, it won’t be right away: Environmental clearance will take two years, funding is scheduled to start in 2009, and a final design wouldn’t be completed until 2011. Construction would begin in 2013 and take a year.
