Q:
We recently ran a QoD about the best pizzas in town, and offered up some of our top staff picks as suggestions. As usual, we threw it open to our readers for feedback; here's what you said.
A:
- While I agree Boston Pizza is one of the best, my all-time favorite is Broadway Pizza on Rancho and Charleston. Their white spinach pizza is the bomb, and their other Italian dishes are just as good. Also great value for the money. At work we order a dish and then split it. You also get six garlic knots and a salad, so even two people have a hard time finishing. (btrflybabe215)
- My candidate for best pizza is a new place that opened a few months ago called Don Antonio's Pizzeria, located at 8810 Maryland Pkwy. (near the corner of E. Pebble Rd., 702/818-3789). They have a daily lunch special from 11 am to 2 pm that’s good for a one-topping individual pizza, a cheese lasagna, or a deli sandwich, and a soda. Their New York-style round pizzas come in three sizes, 8", 14", and 18", and they also have a Chicago deep-dish and Sicilian versions. I live across from the Green Valley Ranch, and this place has become my favorite local Italian eatery. (nycityal)
- The pizza that my wife and I like the best is Marco's Pizza. I know that there are four Las Vegas-area locations, but we usually go the one at 90 S. Stephanie St. in Henderson. (It's on the south-east corner of I-215 and Stephanie.) It's also just take-out and delivery, but we're fans of the thin crust; not big on the stuffed or Chicago-stlye. My wife is originally from Long Island, and I'm from the Boston area. This is as good as Regina's. (I used to eat at Regina's in the North End over 30 years ago.) (mobowest)
- We really enjoy the Pizza Palace at the Imperial Palace. Their pizza is very good and reasonable, plus their hot wings are also one of the best. (florcoast)
- If you like New York-style Pizza, wet and folded, give Tenaya Pizzeria (Azure and Tenaya) a try. It hasn't been open long, but I’ve met people who drive from Henderson to get the New York flavor. The owner and chef is originally from Staten Island. Also the sandwiches are almost better than the pizza. (bpbennie)
- As a Chicago pizza lover, I am surprised that you left off the Chicago Brewing Company at the Four Queens casino [Ed: and 2201 S. Fort Apache Road]. It’s really fine Chicago-style pizza.(Tony)
- Concerning the question regarding "the best pizza in Las Vegas" being Metro Pizza, I'm a Las Vegas native and someone once told me that Metro Pizza was owned and operated by some of Las Vegas's finest, i.e., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro cops), because being a cop you need a place you can eat while on duty and not worry about people spitting in your food. Is this at all true? Silly, but I had to ask! (Sarah)
Nice story but nah, no truth to it whatsover, we're afraid! Actually the real story is better. Metro Pizza was founded by two cousins named John Arena Jr. and Sam Facchini, who back in 1980 moved from New York to Las Vegas in a borrowed car to open a small pizza joint. All they had when they arrived here were two pizza ovens, a cash register, and a napkin holder -- and evidently some talent for making pizza. They now operate three restaurants in town and the accolades they've accumulated include not only "Best of Las Vegas" as voted by readers of the Review-Journal, but also plaudits from the likes of Zagat's, USA Today, and even Oprah Winfrey.

And more feedback is coming in:
- In my opinion the best pizza is Rocco's across from the Red Rock Casino (W. Charleston & Canyon Pointe in the shopping center). It is NY style-pizza and the owner is from the Bronx. One of your members responded to my question a while back about pizza & I eat there very time on the way back from Red Rock Canyon. The plain cheese slices are unbelievable. (jbirch) [Ed: Good call: Rocco's rocks, and not just the pizza -- their sandwiches and deli are great too!]
- "Aurelio's pizza (10960 S. Eastern Ave. Ste. 107) is excellent Chicago pizza. The original Aurelio's is actually from Chicago. I live in LA now and get one every time I'm in Vegas." (mwilliams4)
