Question of the Day - 24 December 2006

Q:
My husband and I will be in Vegas on Christmas Eve. We are staying at Caesars and were wondering if there was anywhere on the Strip to go to Mass?
A:

There are two churches on or close to the Strip that will be holding Midnight Mass:

The Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer 55 E. Reno Ave. (opposite the Luxor, next to the Tropicana)

Christmas Mass schedule: Sunday Dec. 24, Christmas Eve: 4 pm & midnight

Monday December 25, Christmas Day: 9:30 am & 11:30 am

Guardian Angel Cathedral 302 Cathedral Way (on the east side of the Strip, just north of Wynn Las Vegas)

Christmas Eve Mass schedule:

3 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm, & midnight (concert at 11 pm) Midnight Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, Bishop of Las Vegas, and will be broadcast as a live telecast on KLAS Channel 8 from 12 am to 1:30 am

Christmas Day:

8 am, 9:30 am, 11 am, & 12:30 pm

The nearest Catholic church to downtown Las Vegas, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (315 S. Casino Center Blvd., three blocks south of the Four Queens), will be celebrating Mass at 4 and 6 pm on Christmas Eve, but there will be no Midnight Mass, so the Guardian Angel Cathedral would be your best bet. On Christmas Day, St. Joan of Arc will celebrate Mass at 8 and 10 am, noon, and 5 pm.

Thanks to the reader who wrote in with the following amusing feedback: "Just a short mention. I was rather sleepy when I read the daily list about midnight mass and misread the name of one of the churches: I thought it said The Shrine of the most Blessed Reindeer. Thought you would get a kick out of it. Enjoy your emails. Have a blessed Christmas and a safe New Year Holiday."
