Not much new is opening in the coming year.
In fact, at this time, only one new casino is scheduled to open in 2007: the Palazzo, the 3,000-room hotel-casino being built by Las Vegas Sands Corp. next door to the Venetian. Currently, it's on schedule for a late December 2007 grand opening, but that could change in the next 12 months. If it does (and gets pushed back even a few weeks), no new major casinos will open next year.
A casino will be renamed: The Aladdin will become Planet Hollywood. If all goes according to plan -- and the plan has been revised and pushed back several times over the past several years -- this will take place in the spring.
Another major opening doesn't involve a casino. Town Square, a $700 million 100-acre retail and office development, will debut on the south Strip (part of the property is where the old Vacation Village was located).
Several high-rise condos will be completed in 2007, including Sky Las Vegas (next to Circus Circus), the second Panorama tower (on Industrial across from Bellagio), Allure (on W. Sahara just west of the Strip), and at least two Turnberry condos.
In the year 2008, casino openings should include Cosmopolitan and Encore on the Strip, and Aliante Station in North Las Vegas, along with (non-casino) Trump Tower and a few other high-rises.
