Question of the Day - 07 January 2007

Q:
We came to Las Vegas for the marathon and Great Santa Run in December, but I have not been able to find any information on the final number of Santas. Did they break the World Record?
A:

Nope, they had just over 3,000 Santas participate in the 5km Great Vegas Run, but that wasn't enough to break the record. This mantle remains with the Liverpool (UK) Santa Dash, which succeeded in smashing its 2005 World Record of 3,921 runners with a total of 4,975 this year. In addition to Las Vegas, other locations around the world we know of that staged Santa runs this year included Philadelphia and New Zealand. Powys (Wales), a five-year veteran of the event and previous record holder, had to cancel this year, but plans to be back in 2007.

Oh, and in case you wanted to know marathon results too, Joseph Kahugu finished first overall, with a time of 2:16:19. The fastest lady finisher was Jemima Jelagat, with 2:35:12.
