Question of the Day - 03 February 2007

Q:
What's going on in Las Vegas for Valentine's Day? Any special meals or romantic suggestions for a visiting couple?
A:

Sure! With 400 or so on a normal day, and a whole heap more on Feb. 14, this isn't the wedding capital of the world for nothing. And what could be more romantic than a gondola ride or a trip up the Eiffel Tower? Or both! Okay, there might be an unromantically long wait to do either of these on Valentine's Day or the preceding weekend, but there's no shortage of other options, especially if you don't mind dipping into your pocket (go on, you know she's worth it.)

As always with big calendar days, a lot doesn't get announced until the last minute, while other things sell out way in advance. But what follows is what we hope is a list of helpful suggestions to suit a range of wallets.

DINING

Many restaurants will be serving special menus. Here are some of the ones we know about that offer suitably romantic settings:

  • André's at Monte Carlo will be serving a 5-course meal for $115 per person. Reservations required.
  • André's Downtown, an old favorite, will be serving a 6-course meal for $105 per person. Reservations required.
  • Alizé at The Palms will be serving a 6-course meal for $125 per person, with three seating times: 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. Reservations required.
  • Waverly's Steakhouse at the Cannery will have 2 special dinners: Boeuf à la Bourguignon for $32, and flame-broiled veal chop for $39. Reservations suggested.
  • Le Cirque at Bellagio will be serving a prix fixe menu for $105 per person, with a choice of appetizer, main course, and dessert. Reservations required.
  • Postrio, inside Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppe's, will have a special menu available in addition to their regular à la carte menu. Reservations suggested. You're sure to be serenaded by the resident opera singers, and maybe you can squeeze in a gondola ride before or after your meal.
  • BOA Steakhouse inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace will be offering a special 4-course meal for two for $130 a couple. Reservation required; shopping spree at La Perla (or Victoria's Secret, depending on your budget) recommended.
  • If raw fish is your thing, Sushi Roku inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace will be offering a special 6-course meal for two for $150 per couple, in addition to their regular à la carte menu. Reservations required.
  • Hugo's Cellar at Four Queens, another longtime favorite for a romantic tête â tête will have a special menu in addition to their daily menu. Reservations required, if not already fully-booked.
  • Top of the World atop The Stratosphere will be serving a special 4-course meal for two for $180 a couple, or $240 with wine pairing. Reservations required. Desserts recommended.
  • Aureole at Mandalay Bay will be serving a 5-course meal for $95 per person in the main dining room and $105 in the Swan Court; add $40 for wine pairing. Reservations required.
  • Fleur de Lys at Mandalay Bay will be serving a 5-course menu for $105 per person, which includes Champagne and a rose; add another $80 per person to your tab for wine pairing. Reservations required.
  • If you fancy something less formal and more relaxed, Nora's Cuisine, a popular local Italian restaurant on W. Flamingo Rd., will have a set meal for $50 per person, with live music.
  • And if you can't make it across the pond to the self-styled romance capital of the world, the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris, Las Vegas is the next best thing. They'll be serving a 5-course tasting menu, with an early seating at 4 p.m.-4:45 p.m. for $90 per person or, from 5 pm-10 pm, it's $165 each. Reservations required. Great views of the Bellagio fountain show.
  • Zumanity's Eroticafé offers an exclusive menu based on ancient aphrodisiacs, including such delicacies as "Ménage à Foie," which includes florets of Champagne pâté with hazelnut oil and saffro
